Steam Cleaners

I am seriously thinking of getting a steam cleaner to clean the house, carpets etc. I have seen one on the tele and argos have one that looks up to the job for £45. Dont want to spend too much as Im not sure how I will get on with it and can buy a better one later.

Has anybody got one and how do you get on with it?

I don't know - let me know how you get on, cos I'm interested too. All I do know is that GH magazine tested about half a dozen last year and thought they were all rubbish, and wouldn't reccomend a single one. How do other people feel about them? What about the little hand-held gun-style ones? Have they improved since GH rather unfavourable report?

Thanks sobernow I did wonder how they would cope with carpet. I really need to clean my carpet suppose it would be better just to get someone in to do it. What about a hand held one just to blast the places you cant easily get to with a cloth.

Mmm, yes, I bought a Polti Vaporetto ( £300) after seeing it in action at the Good Food show last year, after an initial flurry round the house, it has sat in the loft since last December.

I could do with cleaning the sofa in the conservatory, but the thought of doing it.... Just hope DH doesn't spot it in the loft when he goes up for the skis for servicing. He'll say, I thought it was going save money on having the carpets cleaned etc!!

It is a lot of hard work, yes it is fun going round blasting stains and fingerprints but as for an expanse of carpet 24x18 I'll leave it to the experts, they are faster!!

DON'T DO IT!!!! I hate my machine with a vengeance. Takes ages to do the smallest stain and makes you want to throw it under a truck!
