Advice needed on bay windows and wooden blinds/curtains

Have a bay window in my living room and all we have up at the moment are wooden blinds. I really want curtains as well as I feel it looks a bit plain. The only thing is I was wondering How would I fix the curtain rail as the blinds are there?

are the blinds fitted to the window frame or the wall???

if there fitted to the window frame you could hand a pole attached to the wall

if attached to the wall then i'd hand a pole just a little bit above it.

The blinds are actually screwed into top of window FD.

Why bother with curtains, I bet it looks really good with just the blinds. How about a pair of dramatic lamps with coloured shades (square or something) just inside the edges of the bay. The lights will visually warm the room and will make you see the room in a new way when it gets dark.

I just feel they keep the heat in. I just love drawing curtains at night time, always have done.

could you not hang a pole from the celling as close to the window as poss

fairydust · 07/11/2004 10:17

or could the blinds belowered to attach a pole

blossomhill · 07/11/2004 10:19

FD - could but then they wouldn't go round the window would they? My living room is fairly small so I don't know if that would look right.

is your bay window a walk in bay or one with the sill running across it?

Bozza · 07/11/2004 10:26

Are the windows right up to the ceiling blossomhill? That was my problem with this house and the windows were uPVC so difficult to attach to and very little shape. Like you I wanted curtains that followed the shape of the window rather than drawing straight accross and loosing that space. I maanged to get somebody to make the curtains and fit a track to the ceiling but following the line of the windows IYSWIM. The track is white like the ceiling and so fairly inobtrusive (have poles at all the other windows).

Walk in one FD

what about a pelmut at the top to soften it up?

We've got wooden blinds in our livingroom bay window (although they are done in such a way that you can hang curtains as well). When we moved in the previous owners had a length of voile draped round the window using this type of thing . It looked really good, finished the window off. Know what you mean about the curtains, I like them too and when we have decorated will put curtains up but am not 100% sure about keeping the blinds as I feel they cut a lot of the light out.
