First Bra

My 10yo has recently started wearing a bra (30A) but has complained in the hot weather that it makes her sweat a lot. I have been unable to find a cotton bra - can anyone suggest anything other than a crop top? Also, why are all the “first bras” padded? Is this necessary?

Light padding can hide nipples that girls can be self conscious about. 30A may not be the correct size - have you measured her without adding any inches to the back size?

No I haven’t measured but we tried a 28 and a 30 and the 30 she feels is more comfortable. I did wonder about covering the nipples but I think they all seem excessively padded.

The 28 might have felt tight due to the cup being too small. An A cup is only 1 inch difference between under and over bust measurements

I’m happy to play around with sizes but am still surprised there’s no cotton options for girls of that age.

First job is to measure her, Boob or Bust is a good calculator. Once you know the right size you may find you have more options than in a 30A.
M&S do some cotton bras in small sizes, or Matalan do croptops.

I have some great non padded cotton bras from M&S! Despite being a grown women, their teen range (think it's called Angel) is one of only a few places I can find a 30D! These bras are a few years old though, not sure if they still do them.

Also, I have some from George at ASDA and you can take the padding out. A medium fits me (they're not in bra sizes) so a small might do the trick for her?

Good luck!

PS I notice the M&S site still says the bras are lightly padded but they just seem like substantial/thicker material to me but better to go in and check them out in person! Again, maybe they've changed them since I bought them but I wouldn't call them padded.

M&S bras are amazing! I’m cabin crew so stuck in the same one for a long time sometimes.

I’m very slim/small, I wear a 32A, their bras aren’t as padded as others, I dread the nipple show, air con on board really doesn’t help and male passengers like to gawp, I pretty much only wear m&s bras at work for this reason
