I'm going to get DP a PS3 for christmas but I have absolutely NO clue what it's all about.

I cant ask him either as he wouldn't know - he has't had a games console for at least 15 years! He played with his pals one last night and though he didn't let on, I could tell he was (after always saying grown men playing computer games was odd )

When I buy the actual console, is everything included so it's ready to go? Or do I need to buy other accessories?

And some have 40GB and some ave 60GB - What's that all about? Does it make much difference?

Also, it seems that 350 is sort of average for the 60GB one, does that sound right?

TIA.

My DH has one and it came with the controllers and a couple of games. Why not try a search on the net-amazon etc and see the best package?

All sounds about right, price wise. Everything you need comes with it but you can buy accessories, but let dp do that afterwards! Did you know you can play them online? ds has one and he only ever plays online.

right the main difference is that a 40gb wont play playstation 2 games and a 60 gb one will so if he has a ps2 then he can use his games and save himself some dosh.

JeremyVile · 18/11/2007 13:53

Oh really?

Well, he doesn't have ps2 so I might as well save myself 50 quid and get the 40GB one. Thanks.

He can also download software from internet to allow him to play ps2 games on 40gb, or thats what i've been told anyway.

Hi JeremyVile,
The main differences between the 60GB and the 40GB models are as shown below:

PLAYSTATION 3 60GB:

Four USB ports
Memory card reader ports
Ethernet cable included
Able to play certain PlayStation 2 titles
Able to play Super Audio CDs
PLAYSTATION 3 40GB:

Two USB ports
No memory card reader ports
Cable no longer provided
Unable to play PlayStation 2 titles
Unable to play Super Audio CDs

as stated the 40gb model does not play ps2 games as it has not got th nessasery hardware to do so

On the face of it this option seems cheaper but when you take that the games are £30-£40 and when you buy a 60gb you get 2 free games plus the extra 20gb storage space on the harddisk.

Wow - thank you.

Thats soooooo helpful - looks like I'll be buying the 60GB one!
