Range Rover Evoque

AnxiousElephant77 · 15/05/2021 10:04

My car is due to be changed, and I've been planning to get an Evoque. However, I've done some research and they look bloody awful, horrendously priced repairs if anything goes wrong, which it seems to regularly. They're last or almost last in all the reliability surveys I've read.

I'm not stupid enough to buy one just because they look nice. Does anyone have one? What year? How have you found them?

I’ve had three and love them. My current one is a Landmark in an interesting colour but best of all it’s actually quite decent in bad conditions

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 16/05/2021 22:33

@wotchhha

I think it's very unattractive but I drive an XC90 which isn't that attractive either - but it's safe.
My XC90 R-design is attractive 😂
Shmithecat2 · 17/05/2021 09:19

Yeah, I think the newer XC90s are very good looking! And the XC60s. Volvo have come a long way in their design. I've gone off JLR and their designs in recent years. Should never have replaced the FL2 with the Disco Sport. The Disco 4 was perfect, the Disco 5 is pretty ugly, and any RR past 2012, the lights on them now are just nasty. Can't even think about the new Defender. It's like a Skoda Yeti on steroids.

Do you not consider fuel consumption and driveability of SUV vs estate models? I'm looking at replacing my A6 Avant, which I love to drive, and find comparing it with potentially an SUV difficult. Am veering back to estates. I don't really get the appeal of SUVs, although they do look impressive but that's as far as it goes for me.

One thing that SUV style cars has for me that estates don't is the higher seating position. I recently 'downsized' from a LR Discovery to an MB ML350. Whilst the ML is still quite a high seating position, it's got nothing on the Disco, and feels a lot smaller. Which sounds daft as small is not a word anyone would use to describe the ML. I guess the higher up I am, the safer I feel it is.
Shmithecat2 · 17/05/2021 10:26

And no, fuel consumption isn't something we have at the top of our tick list. If we can get more than 30mpg than great, if not, so be it. My car needs to have torque, space inside (both dh and I are over 6ft) reasonable boot, good safety rating, and there's a few gizmos that I like to have (heated seats, parking sensors, electric
seats, auto lights/wipers etc). We also pay cash for our cars rather than lease/loan - we decide a budget and try to stick to it. As long as those are ticked off, I can swallow the not so great bits. DH is also a bit of a badge snob and prefers certain makes over others.

lonelySam · 17/05/2021 10:32

Don't do it. E-Pace, I-Pave and F-Pace are all better cars than Evoque if you wanna stick to JLR.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/05/2021 11:18

@Shmithecat2 I understand all of that, including mostly torque and safety. I am really drawn to the Q7 - but the 30mpg Vs 40mpg for the estate does make me reconsider. My DH favours the new Honda CRV, which seems to have it all, apart from the d desirability. I wouldn't mind another A6 all-road - bit sporty yet eminently practical. Tons of leg room etc.
We're a bit suspicious of the big brands these days though - not what they once were and I think rely on badge/brand placement. Honda are really reliable and great torque from the 1.5 petrol, but just a bit dull!

I did consider the Q5/Q7 fleetingly, but having had 2 previous Audis with auto gearbox issues (A8 and A6 estate) and my preference for autos, I discounted them. Aside from that though, I do see the attraction to them! Diesel engines tend to have better torque, but I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, and for newer diesels, not a sensible choice if long higher speed journeys are few and far between.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/05/2021 11:32

@Shmithecat2 I'm the opposite, in that I love a manual gearbox but they seem not so readily available, unless I buy brand new but I swore off doing that again.
Might look at leasing if I can get around 12k a year - seems to be what most people do these days.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/05/2021 11:35

Sorry - 12k *miles" :)

Yeah, my head was turned 10 years ago to auto and I've never looked back. I'm just lazy and CBA to change gear 😂. My car does have the flappy paddle things on the steering wheel if I ever feel the need to change gear myself, but I have to be honest and say I don't even know how to use them 😳

fruitsaladyummyummy · 17/05/2021 12:21

We almost got an evoque but ended up with a merc GLC and we love it. Parents have an evoque and it's tiny inside, hopefully you won't need to put car seats in there!

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/05/2021 13:15

@Shmithecat2 I wouldn't worry about it - the flappy paddles came out in F1 racing, if I remember correctly. I imagine one would need a series of tutorials Grin

Grin I accidentally knocked them once or twice when I first got the car, panicked a bit, and hit the auto gear selector, seemed to sort it. Bloody things.

JellyBabiesFan · 17/05/2021 13:21

Left to change down right to change up.

Tutorial complete.

lucyslocketinherpocket · 17/05/2021 13:46

Well we have an Astra (swish! Grin) but borrowed by Mums Evoque to go on holiday assuming it'd be much bigger as we had lots of baby stuff to take.

It wasn't. It was tiny. Seriously it was no bigger than our car. Never again. It had comfy seats though (compared to my peasants car!!).

Thanks 😂😂😂. I might try it out up and down the drive 😬
Sunflowergirl1 · 06/06/2021 07:56

Friend just had to get rid....3 years old and gearbox developed a fault. Land Rover advise 12 weeks to get the part! She isn't buying another LR

Lunariagal · 25/06/2021 17:46

I used to work for JLR. I'd never have one of their vehicles.
