Range Rover Evoque

AnxiousElephant77 · 15/05/2021 10:04

My car is due to be changed, and I've been planning to get an Evoque. However, I've done some research and they look bloody awful, horrendously priced repairs if anything goes wrong, which it seems to regularly. They're last or almost last in all the reliability surveys I've read.

I'm not stupid enough to buy one just because they look nice. Does anyone have one? What year? How have you found them?

I had one. Absolutely loved it. No issues with the car but it was stolen off my drive right under my nose. The security seems to be very poor on range rovers, they are easily the most stolen car around here. For that reason I would never have one again.

lovelyupnorth · 15/05/2021 21:44

Friend had a brand new £115k range rover and it was dog shit. And Land Rover support was lacking.

Now got a Bentley 4x4 instead

Wouldn’t be touching any Land Rover with a barge pole.

Also mainly arseholes drive Evoques.

AnxiousElephant77 · 16/05/2021 15:31

Well that's, er, good to know.

Cramped for space, not very good looking, and unless you go for one of the D-Dynamique range, underpowered. Have you looked at the GLA AMG Line Mercedes?

I've had a couple of Land rovers (a FL2 and a Disco 3) and they were a joy! Never had any issues with them. The secret to happy LR ownership, as told to me by my indy LR mechanic - never buy the first release of any model, as JLR like their customers to do their product testing for them 😂
Letsgetreadytocrumble · 16/05/2021 15:44

They are notoriously shit cars, and also actually really small inside.

eurochick · 16/05/2021 15:48

I sat in one when they first came out and was surprised how small and dark they were inside. I had a 2 seater at the time so was not used to roomy cars but it seemed cramped.

Get a Merc (GLC/E) - much nicer and more reliable

augustusglupe · 16/05/2021 15:56

My last Evoque I ended up keeping 5 years. I loved it and never had a problem. It was a 3 door which I think they've stopped doing now.
I've got a new 5 door now. I like that it feels big and secure and tbh compared to the full on RR, it's smaller, so I find it a dream to drive and park and it's a lot cheaper. I think you get a lot of car for the money.
I know about the reviews OP and I'd always had Golfs before I got an Evoque and I was worried too.
Maybe some do have problems but my experience of them is good.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 16/05/2021 15:59

It’s really good to know and thanks OP for posting. I really love the way they look and it was on my list car to look at I will be sticking with Volvo

AnxiousElephant77 · 16/05/2021 16:01

My ex husband has a Volvo, I don't want him to think I'm copying him Grin

They come out top in the reviews.

I've got an Audi at the moment, I might look at a Q5 instead. I really did want an Evoque but I feel like I'd be a nervous bloody wreck if I bought one now. Waiting for something to go wrong.

Have you looked at the merc GLC? That's the next car on my wish list

Mamette · 16/05/2021 17:46

I think the Jaguar SUV looks lovely.

That’s all I’ve got though- haven’t a clue about reliability or anything. I’ve just noticed it looks good.

I drive an ML350 currently, and adore it. But I'm now mooning over the GLC/GLE and thinking of acceptable reason to ditch my perfectly lovely car.

If you're referring to the F-Pace, they're pretty super. BIL is on his second through choice (company car).
alabaster11 · 16/05/2021 18:03

Please don't. The poor mans Range Rover.

thenightsky · 16/05/2021 18:04

I was talking to friend who has his own garage and we both agreed we'd love a RR, but even my friend said he'd never buy one as he couldn't afford the garage bills.

Hubstar · 16/05/2021 18:06

Friend had one. Massively regretted it. Not a lot of room.

Friend of mine owns a business for range rovers. Said it’s the worst car you could ever buy unless you put by a good £6m a year to repair it. The business is booming because they’re always breaking down!

Essentialgarage · 16/05/2021 18:07

I own a garage. I couldn't afford to repair them. They go wrong all the time and are very expensive to fix.
I would recommend the Volvo (XC 40 or 60) as well, failing that (assuming you are looking at a premium brand) I would say the Q5.

Oooh. I LOVE my Volvo. Best car I’ve ever had. Nect door neighbour has a Ferrari and a Mercedes GLE and loves it. The Mercedes. He barely drives the Ferrari. It’s always stored 😂😂😂
queenofthenorthwest · 16/05/2021 18:15

I had one once as a courtesy car. I loved it. I'd love one.

I'm governed by what my work provide because the car insurance is too high in my area.

I just got in it and you know when you think yeah I could park this no problem.
Sigh.
I really want one.

LadyGAgain · 16/05/2021 18:33

Where I work a lot of colleagues chose to have an Evoque as a company car (madness as an option I know). And they are utterly shit. A poor man's Range Rover, totally unreliable and forever in the garage.

EssentialHummus · 16/05/2021 18:39

Another vote for the GLC.

icedancerlenny · 16/05/2021 18:42

I had an Evoque when the new style came out in 2019. After 6 months they offered me a full refund as I had had so many problems with it. The electrics were terrible. Everything would stop working at some point - sat nav, parking sensors, radio, cameras, blind spot monitor. It was awful

pixietinkdust · 16/05/2021 18:47

Ooo I’m one of those “arseholes who drives an Evoque” Hmm

I had mine leased instead of PCP (as SUV Car Tax is a small fortune but is included in monthly lease price) it’s the newest build 20 plate - 240D AWD R-Dynamic SE. Be aware the that entry level model is only a 2 wheel drive, 150BHP, manual gears, doesn’t come with leather seats, sat nav or even Apple CarPlay which I think is really poor considering they’re marketing it as a luxury car! Definitely worth looking up the spec levels to make sure you’re not disappointed Smile

Mine’s a really nice drive though and I really like it!
Never had a problem with it maintenance wise either (fingers crossed!)
