Range Rover Evoque

AnxiousElephant77 · 15/05/2021 10:04

My car is due to be changed, and I've been planning to get an Evoque. However, I've done some research and they look bloody awful, horrendously priced repairs if anything goes wrong, which it seems to regularly. They're last or almost last in all the reliability surveys I've read.

I'm not stupid enough to buy one just because they look nice. Does anyone have one? What year? How have you found them?

OP posts:
HmmmmmmInteresting · 16/05/2021 18:57

I used to love the way they look but was just thinking this week that I've gone off them and can't put my finger on why. I'm suddenly seeing loads around and I no longer think they look very nice. Maybe it's not kept up with other cars.

Update: checked with car expert DS. There's a new model out so the older models must be quite cheap now. Maybe it's the old models I'm seeing around and they're looking dated.

knightinshiningwhatever · 16/05/2021 18:58

@pixietinkdust can I ask how much the lease is? I'm desperate for a new car and I have a commute that is over the hills and far away and it will snow up there 🤦‍♀️

pixietinkdust · 16/05/2021 19:06

@knightinshiningwhatever yeh sure, it’s £440pm. That’s including 18k miles a year mind, which I’m so glad I pay for now because of the pandemic and working from home Wink

Onthegrid · 16/05/2021 19:12

Why are you buying a 4x4 do you live in the country or are you just buying a status symbol that shows off your wealth and position in society

I also see no mention of buying a hybrid or electric vehicle so I take it you don't care about the planet either

mumumum3 · 16/05/2021 19:24

Have you looked at a Tesla X? We love ours and it is fun to drive, similar space and price point as RR

JellyBabiesFan · 16/05/2021 19:33

Poor reliability, common as pig shit and IMO a crap image.

Get a Lexus suv instead for luxury and top tier reliability.

Bore off. If you've got children, you're in no positions to lecture anyone about what car they drive and the possible damage they do to the planet.
SantiagoSky · 16/05/2021 19:38

Not sure what you mean, we need to preserve the planet for the children. Evoque is not only unreliable but also increasingly becoming a school. +1 for Tesla X.

Shmithecat2 · 16/05/2021 19:40

And to add to that, just about every single car suggested, including the evoque, has hybrid/electric options.

SantiagoSky · 16/05/2021 19:41

Hybrid is only a small improvement emissions wise, full electric is the future.

MondayYogurt · 16/05/2021 19:42

Aren't ICE cars on the way out now though? 2030 isn't that far away. SIL had an Evoque for a few months but moved onto a Cayenne as it was cramped.
Our neighbours have a Jag I-Pace and it's really quite eye catching.

Onthegrid doesn't care about the planet, or they wouldn't have multiple children. Their comment was bugger all to do with the planet, and all about another irrational and ignorant hatred of 4x4/SUVS, MANY of which have hybrid/electric options. And even if they don't, my glorious 4x4, diesel at that, has a carbon footprint one third of that of a child per annum.
MondayYogurt · 16/05/2021 19:48

It's a car advice thread. Confused
Maybe time for a cuppa.

randomkey123 · 16/05/2021 19:48

These comments are such snobbery.

We've got one, OP, it's 3 years old and DH has decded to keep it. It's done 42k, been in the garage once for a minor service (£350) and one major (£550). It's a gorgeous gorgeous car, and worth every penny.

Best tip is to do a Land Rover Experience day and drive one. Once we'd taken it off road and realised how intelligent it was, we were hooked. We went for a high spec (Landmark Edition) which was around 47k. It's economical, luxurious and the parking sensors make it a doddle to park. Tyres aren't horrendously expense. we live rurally and it's been a godsend to be able to drive through local flood water where we know the roads well........ saved many a 15 mile detour since we've had it. Comfy for 4 adults and boot is fine.

Just don't get a white one or a 2WD and you'll be fine.

wotchhha · 16/05/2021 19:56

I think it's very unattractive but I drive an XC90 which isn't that attractive either - but it's safe.

MBM18 · 16/05/2021 20:05

Recently sold our Prestige model after owning for 3.5 years. Lovely looking car but we wanted bigger boot space and the biggest downside we found was the locking mechanism kept breaking! Had to replace 3, maybe even 4 times, I can't remember which. All genuine Land Rover parts, apparently it's common in the Evoques Confused
We're now looking at a Skoda Kodiaq or Ford S Max, purely for the boot space.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 16/05/2021 20:09

This thread is so Mumsnetty - 'oh I would never go for the ghastly Evoque, I much prefer the Cayenne or the Jaguar' Grin

MyHusbandTheIdiot · 16/05/2021 20:15

@MBM18 highly recommend the Kodiaq, having previously had a couple of other models mentioned on this thread, much prefer my Skoda 😂

blueangel19 · 16/05/2021 20:24

@ all Onthegrid. None of your business what people buy. Bore off and move to Cuba.

mamaoffourdc · 16/05/2021 20:24

Ivegot one and bloody love it! I normally change my car every 3 years but have decided to keep mine ❤️

knightinshiningwhatever · 16/05/2021 21:21

@pixietinkdust that's great thank you!!

RogueV · 16/05/2021 21:47

Yes I’ve read the shit reviews too.
I’m going for a Mercedes GLA, apparently it’s similar in size to the Evoque which you wouldn’t automatically think would you?

I don't even know why I'm here. I ride a tricycle with a bench on the back.
