dp ps2 games play on ps3

brought dp a ps3 for his b'day the rumpur we heard was that ps2 games dont play on this can anyone confrim this at all pls???

yes thats right. As the PS3 will only play PS3 games and the PS2 will only play PS2 games

I was going to ask this question yesterday. DH has just bought himself one, but he says PS2 and PS1 games will play on it. Are you 100% sure biglips?

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Ken Kutaragi has confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will feature backwards compatibility with the PS2 and PSone, ensuring continued support for older software formats in the new hardware.

Speaking to Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, Kutaragi-san attributed some of the success of the PS2 to the console's ability to play PSone games as well as PS2 native titles, stating that this was "a matter of security... [PS2] offers a sense of insurance because it is compatible with PSone and DVD-Movies

Just had a look on Amazon and as far as i can make out it depends on which PS3 you have - the 40GB doesn't have backward compatabilty but the 60GB does.

My nephew has one so I can ask my sis but she is out just now.

I had the same confusion a few weeks ago. You can play PS2 games on the 60gb but not on the 40gb. I ended up forking out a bit extra on the 60gb for this reason.

Aah, well we have the 60gb, so maybe thats why DH said its OK. Biglips, if I had a PS2 game, I would have tried it, thereby negating the need to read this thread and duplicate the question myself

well we dont have the PS ones but the Xbox console. But im surely its worth buying the 60gb to play the PS2 games on PS3 as thats one thing i didnt know about as i dont have one
