Can you get a doll for a 15mnth old???

My dd who turned 1 start of Oct has really started to get into Dolls. My mum was given a really soft one( I think it look like something out of a horror movie) but dd loves making it clap its hands and giving it hugs. So I was thinking of looking for a really nice suitable one for her for Christmas.

I will also need some ideas about bringing my dh round to this idea as he is of the school 'no stereotypical toys' etc etc hates to think of us forcing ideas onto her. But I don't think I am, she loves playing with things like this recently so I think why not let her have a doll. Or is she too young yet. She will be 15mths at Christmas.

If she enjoys playing with it then why not. You can buy soft dolls suitable from birth - Bang on the Door have a really cute range at £20 each, or you could try a rag doll.

Not really any use on where to find dolls but I wanted to say that I don't see the problem in terms of stereotypical toys. DS is 11 months and loves his bear, Boris and I would get him a doll if he showed the same sort of interest that your DD is showing.

Early Learning Centre might have something and I have just had an email with a code for 20% off until the end of November - I'll see if I can find it.

thanks for this I will have a look in a bit. I am working right now so should be getting on with this. I think my dh just wants her to choose her toys rather than have lots of dolls, dolls houses, kitchen etc bought for her. I've always said that that is fine and that I agree basically as long as we let her choose to like dolls etc if she wants.

You know, we gave DS a rag doll when he was about 18 months. He loved it, changed her nappy, pushed it in his toy pushchair, gave her her dinner. BUT the other day, at just turned 3, he told me we would take her to the Oxfam shop! I think they stereotype themselves eventually!

Baby Anabel do a My 1st Baby Anabelle, suitable from a year old. DD got one for her 1st birthday and loves her. She feeds her, puts her to bed, washes her everything. If your dd likes playing with dolls why not get her one??

I should be working too. The lure of looking for birthday and christmas presents for DS is getting rather too tempting...

the 1st baby Annabel sounds good. I will have to have a good look at these.

dd had this one from about 15 months (her 2nd Christmas) . I'm sure at the time it was sold as suitable from 12 months though (in Europe anyway) - has closing eyes but no small parts or hair, can hold its accessories and is soft bodied.

There is one called Tidoo made by Carolle (french, with vanilla scented head - divine!) that has a plastic head, arms,& legs and a body filled with polystyrene balls that can go in the bath that is suitable from 18 months, she has a beautiful face and my daughter did have her from about 15 months and thought she was wonderful. She came in lovely clothes as well. Quite expensive, but so lovely she was worth it, but I'm a sucker for things that smell so nice!

My 1st baby Anabelle is fab. It's not too big either just the right size for dd. I think it may be on offer in Toys R Us at the mo.

Suppose that would be too much to hope for...

I have always thought this sterotyping toys thing weird. DH is also against getting an ironing board and those kind of toys for DDs but whenever we go to people's houses with toy cookers, ironing boards washing machines etc she is completely taken by them. The ironing board is, incidentally at a friends house who got it for her son and he is not remotely interested in it! I hate barbies - but again, recently at another friends house spent AGES playing with the little girls extensive collection! Who am I to argue really? She likes toy tools and cars and trains so it's an all rounder - but it seems easier to do this with girls.

Recently in ELC, small boy looking longingly at play washing machine. Granny yanks him away sharply and says - NO! These toys are JUST for girls. now THAT attitude I hate...

We brought ds a kitchen for his birthday and both dd and ds have buggies for dolls and both of them play with them loads. Dh wasn't impressed with me buying ds a buggy. But who cares???
