Don't get a Renault. Very poor build quality and it will spend half its life in the garage. There was a thread recently where someone was considering a Scenic and quite a few people (me included) commented on how unreliable Renaults are. Just to give you an idea, my four year old Megane hatchback has had four safety recalls, new tyres, new battery, new brake disks, two lots of wipers and has been in three times with a fault on the locking system and has to go back as it's still not fixed. And it's got very low mileage so it's not as if it's been run into the ground. It has cost me over £1,500 in the past year since its three-year warranty expired and I can't wait to get rid of it.

The Vauxhall petrol engine has had some problems; we were looking at similar options but one priority was to get the 1.9 diesel engine which has had great reviews on its reliability, and minimal servicing requirements.

We tried the Vectra, but I found it rather uncomfortable, and it isn't actually very big.

Our main desires were plenty of legroom in the back seat (we have tall and growing boys!), and still lots of space in the boot for holidays.

We've ended up with the Vectra Estate - bought about a month ago - and are very pleased with it.

My bro is in a wheelchair and mum (=carer)has a Zafira and she likes it.

With just 5 seats up, she still has to take the back off the wheelchair and the footrests to fit it in, and there isn't oodles of room left then if you have lots of luggage too.

But the Estate we have is much more spacious.

we have a vectra estate
only 5 seats (zafira has 7) but lots of luggage room - we lurve it

also v reasonably priced compared to people carriers
