Digital camera or polaroid instant camera - which one would you recommend?

My dp has suggested we buy our dd (6) a camera for her xmas. Leaving aside my suspicion that she's a bit too young has anyone any experience of their child and a camera?
Dp thinks that the polaroid would be good as she can see the result fairly quickly- any comments on this? My dd does like to use her dad's camera when were out and about but I don't know whether a digital one would be better.

I didn't think they still made polaroids.

if you get a digital camera with a screen (most of them) you can do an instant replay on the screen. Not sure you can still get polaroid film but the pictures were never very good quality.
