Grrr bloody catalytic converter thieves

Heard some noises last night around the front of my parents, they’d left their ancient Honda CR-V on the road rather than on the drive. Couldn’t actually see anything because of the front hedge.

I decided not to go an investigate as I could hear the voices of 3-4 guys and thought the confrontation not worth the risk. Sure enough, looking underneath the cat con has been angle ground out

Just seeing if anyone else has had to source one for an older vehicle, and how costly it was to sort.

The mechanic I went to didn't want to weld a new cat onto my old corroded exhaust system so I paid £600 to replace the whole lot which really hurt. I decided not to claim on my insurance as it's already expensive enough - not right but there you are. I can't remember how much the cat alone was unfortunately but I don't think they're too bad. The old ones have a lot of precious metals in so are worth a lot in scrap but you probably already know that. Police were 100% not interested of course...

I do worry I'll be done again so I've fitted a cheap tilt alarm and I constantly keep an eye on my car now as I've no garage or driveway, it has to live on the road. A total knobhead came out and told us he'd virtually witnessed them doing it and did nothing!! It's a shit situation all together, really.
