Xbox 360 - Red Circle of Death - oo-er

DS1 had heard of this before and it struck us tonight - our XBox is now toast (microsoft website - they don't call it the red circle of death, humourless buggers!

Luckily DS1 bought a second-hand one from a mate a few weeks ago (wonder how long before that one is toast...???) because apparently you can wait 4 weeks for them to fix it.

Microsoft have extended warranties from 1 year to 3 for this so at least it is covered but still...anyone who's thinking of getting one this Christmas, you might like to get a Wii (if you can find one) or a PS3 (if you can afford one) instead...

Ours came from Play.com last Christmas, I'm wondering if I can insist on a new replacement instead of a repair - anybody know? Play don't appear to have a contact email so I'll have to ring them in the morning.

We have just had this happen to us! If it is a full red circle it means one of your cables is loose! If it is three out of the four red segments lit on the front it means its dead!! (I think that is right!).

Ours has just been for repair and it was away for 3 weeks. We called Microsoft directly rather than going through the retailer we bought it from.

my friend has had 4 replaced now.. it shouldn't be a problem

Well I rang play.com this morning and she said we'll have to contact Microsoft direct (MoH, when you say 4 replaced, do you mean an actual new one each time or do they keep repairing it and sending it back?)

Anyway the girl I spoke to gave me something to try before we go to microsoft to get it fixed - she reckons a lad she works with has made this work.

You have to switch it on, wrap it up in about 4 big bath towels (she had a very strong Irish accent and I thought she was saying tiles, that took some sorting out ) and leave it on for about 30 mins - then switch off and wait about 15 mins - then turn it on again. Her mate thinks it gets so hot it reactivates the chips or something

What if it catches fire though???
