The time is fast approaching to buy DD a high chair.
Adfter much deliberation we are now torn between the Tripp Trapp and the Svan.

Having read much, the TT seems to be particulalry rated for posture and for that i like it. But the Svan seems so much more comfortable, a relatively higher back and cushioned seat for little bottoms.

Please help me choose!

You do know you're going to get lots of posts saying "Ikea Antilop, ffs" don't you? Not sure I'd worry about posture or cushioning that much - they're not in it for particularly long periods - it's not a desk chair that they're in for ages! Easy cleaning would be my top thing, and handily transportable. TT is very nice, but bloody expensive for a high chair...

Tripp Trapp, lasts forever, DD 3.5 still using hers, friend's 10yr old still using hers too. DS 8mths loves his, don't even use padded cushions any more cos he's so messy, and he's comfortable enough to sit in it for ages (if I keep giving him food!)

Have heard Svan is harder to get little one in/out.

And yes, the Ikea one is fab - grandparents have one!

I've got a Svan and love it. It is about the only baby product that I have bought and not had second thoughts about. I liked the fact it has a tray that you can use or not use - most of the time DD is sitting at the table but sometimes its useful to have a tray, for example this week she has learnt that she can push the chair away from the table with her legs, and like most new things, will do this over and over and over again. Shame the cushions aren't waterproof and wipeclean though, but they do wash and dry well. Friends with the TT are happy too though - and the cushions are nicer!

Oh - also I have found I needed a harness, even though most reviews say you don't with a Svan. And get the plastic tray cover too - tomato sauce stains everything otherwise.

As for amount of time spent in it, today we have had 3 meals of 40 minutes each, and one 5 minute snack. I think I have a slow eater!

Habbibu, didnt know i was gonna get that response but dont want an IKEA one, also kinda like 'bloody expensive'....DH isnt so keen though!
Amazonian - its the longevity of the TT that makes it seem very appealing. interestign point re. getting them out, wonder if its true?
MLO- i liked the fact it has a tray too...have heard you can get an unofficial TT tray somewhere? Wonder if theyre any good?

I couldn't decide between the TT and the Svan either. I bought this in the end. I don't know anyone else with one, but we've had lots of positive comments from visitors. (The cushioning has changed since I got mine, but still the same great range of colours!)

CSWS - Never seen that before, what made you choose that one as an alternative?

I think I read about the difficulty in getting them in/out in a Pregnancy Junior magazine review - was ages ago!

I do think that my DD sits better at the table and for longer compared to her peer group because she has a TT - most of her mates are fidgetting/climbing/leaving the table before dinner is over, probably cos they're uncomfortable imho - I wouldn't fancy kneeling to eat or sitting at a table which is too high for me! It's also great for sitting painting/sticking & glueing etc because it can be easily cleaned. In fact I think it comes into its own once it's no longer a true baby highchair!

We saw it at the Baby Show, on the Mountain Buggy stand, as they are the UK distributors. We already had a MB buggy, and generally loved their stuff, and were impressed when we saw it. We also saw the Svan at the same show, and were a bit disappointed at how 'cheap' it looked, as we had been swaying towards getting it until then.

Orchide · 08/11/2007 22:38

thanks amazonian, thats exactly what i wanted to know

We've got a TT, used for both dd's, and now trying to figure out how we are going to oust youngest (5) from 'her' beloved chair when new baby comes!. Dead easy to clean, still looks great. We wanted to get something we didn't mind looking at it as we have a small space and it sits in our main living room where our table is.

MrsBadger · 09/11/2007 07:22

trays for the TT are called Clic Clac - available here

oooggs · 09/11/2007 07:35

loved TT - ds1 just been evicted at nearly 4 because needed his (and had to buy another) as had twins. Otherwise he would still be in it. The cushions wash and dry really well and When ds1's was set up as a seat I often perched on it if it was near the computer.

The only thing I can say that I don't personally like is the new design. So I bought my second one 2nd hand so it matched the 1st one in design.

aDadGoneMad · 09/11/2007 07:39
