DH wants one for our planned travels on the continent next year, so I thought I'd get him one for Christmas.

What do I need? Whats just a gimmick?

I have heard Tomtom is good - any second opinions?

Our top price is about £150 - I have seen a tomtom one EU for that price.

We have a Tom TOm one and really like it. It does sometimes take us on very round the houses routes but it's really good when we haven't a clue where to go.

We used Tom Tom to find our way around France this year and it most definitely took the stress out of the trip. We did go through the odd farmers track but we kept the faith and it got us to Charente Maritime, up to DLP and back home without a hitch.

Traditionally DH and I are not talking by the time we've arrived because I haven't given the proper directions or he's driving too fast for the junctions etc but this year it was all calm and serene.

I love my TomTom. DH gave it to me for Christmas last year, and it was a total luxury.

I'm amazed at how well they work, and how easy they are to use. One of the things I like is that it tells you when you will arrive at your destination, and that is really helpful when you have a child asking you every 5 minutes.

The TomTom comes with Euro maps, and it is easy to download other ones (I downloaded the USA this year for our holiday there).

We have a tomtom and we live in Belgium so we have used it in Belgium, Holland and in the UK and it's fine.
