Anyone's kids got a LEAP PAD?

Does anyone have a LP?

Could you tell me if they have to press hard on the machine to get it to work, or does it work easily?

I am looking to get one for DS for christmas - he needs things to help his writing control/pressure and I was just wondering if it would be worth it.

Any comments?

My 15 month old DD is only just able to press sufficiently hard enough to get it to do anything - it was pretty useless for her before this age, she couldn't press hard enough and it was also fairly complex. It does need firm-ish downward directional pressure.

I was actually ready to give up on it as it says suitable from 6 months (I think?) which is when she was given it as a present, but she just tried to rip the pages of the book up.

She loves it now though and plays with it herself as well as in company of an adult, even though her understanding of the narrative is limited. I think it will be good as a child gets older as there are lots of aspects to pick up on, eg narrative, music, counting etc.
