Any advice on an Ergo carrier

I'm thinking of upgrading my baby bjorn for one of these and would love some advice on them...

  • what is the difference between a classic and the new generation to justify the extra £20 in cost?
  • can I put my 4 month old in it without the infant carrier?
  • can I put baby in it facing outward on the front?

Thank you!

Not sure what the difference between classic & new generation is, sorry.

I started using it without the infant carrier at 4 months, it's fine with a baby who has good tone.

It's not designed to be front facing, ds seems happy enough looking out the side.

Overall I've found it better than the baby bjorn because it distributes the weight much better, it's very comfortable. HTH

the external pocket for bits and bobs is streamlined.

the NG has extra padding which makes it warmer in the summer - (but i don't think is necessary in the winter as you would dress your baby warmly anyway.)

the hood is bigger so covers more of the baby if he falls asleep. more an issue for an toddler as it covered my 14 mo old well enough when we hiked with her in devon (using the classic)

NG available in more colours.

can't be used facing outward.

ng has poppers instead of velcro to fasten up the sleep hood.

bit late to this but in case someone picks this up on a search - main difference is classic straps can only be used in the 'rucksack' position, while the new gen can be crossed on the back when used for a front carry and also on the hip. a front carry with a classic ergo is a bit of a pita (fastening the chest strap across your back) although perfectly doable. you can't hip carry in a classic.

and yep, neither style can be used outward facing on the front (if you want that a wrap or a mei tai would be a better choice).
