Washing machine or washer dryer?

My washing machine finally exploded last night after weeks of making the strangest noises AND i have a full load of washing to get through - great!

I am now in the market for a new one and wondered if anyone had any recomendations. I am very tempted to get a washer dryer as i have never had a dryer and with 2 growing kids it is something that I covet. But i do know that dryers are not very eco friendly and they cost a bomb to use.

Is it worth it? - discuss.

I'd go seperate washing machine and dryer, as I think the combo. ones aren't very good

I love my zanussi jet system 1600 washer/dryer. Quick, quiet and so far v reliable. As half of a normal wash can't be tumble dried anyway, it is fine for my muddy mucky family of 5!

We ended up with a John Lewis own brand one. Not sure whether that is good or bad but it was a Which! Best Buy so we went for it. Unfortunately we now have to wait for up to 3 weeks. Dirty clothes for all!
