Recommendations for family estate car?

Boring topic I know but dh and I have driven our Golf into the ground and are lucky enough to have received a generous donation from dh's mum towards a new car. We think we need an estate but have no idea what's good / bad (beyond looking on topgear.com etc). Apparently I'm not allowed to choose just because I like the colour....

We've just bought a Renault Laguna Estate and its lovely. Huge boot fits my pram and the labrador! We've got a big roof box as well. Nice to drive, lots of toys, economical, good value for money. Down side is they don't keep their value but we run our cars into the ground anyway.

Mazda 6. We got ours a few years ago because it came top in the What Car magazine ratings for Estates. Does the job just fine (that is all the praise you are going to get out of me with regards to a car .
