I'm guessing you meant gift, not goat?
I really liked my hooded towels.

fawkeoff · 04/11/2007 20:26

nappies, wipes and baby wash. they were the most useful presents i had bought me

Gingerbear · 04/11/2007 20:28

A Brightsparks Coorie pouch sling.
A bumbo baby seat - from 4/5 months onwards
A gorgeous silver piggy bank

stripeymama · 04/11/2007 20:28

I always go for something totally non-baby related. Book for the hours of sofa-bound feeding?

choosyfloosy · 04/11/2007 20:29

is this a first baby?

the things that meant most to me were:

baby gym
lovely superexpensive sweaters - in winter you see them mostly in sweaters IMO and a nice one is REALLY nice to have
brightly-coloured tights - winter baby needs something covering its feet and socks always fall off - marks do nice tights - mix of colours is good

A keepsake box for all her new baby cards, hospital tags and bits and bobs?

Someone bought my DD a beautiful little china cup in a lovely box. She still hasn't used it and she's 2 1/2. I'm waiting until she's old enough to appreciate it.

moljam · 04/11/2007 20:36

a promise to take me out to lunch baby-free once she was ok to be left for an hour or so. especially for a sahm second timer a bit of adult time out was a real lift.

A white company blanket - we now keep it in the car in case and she's almost 3.

jennifersofia · 04/11/2007 22:12

For baby - a new towel (used to put her on immediately after she was born, as it happened!) also some handknitted booties.
For me - choc and neals yard massage oil
