thinking of it for DTDs

Seems to get v good reviews when the price is taken into context - although obv doesn't perform the same as a £200 cybershot...

What do you think, false economy? Or bargain for a 6yo?

I think it looks like a great bargain! It's a better camera than the one I've just passed on to my 7 year old dd and she's getting loads of fun out of it.
The only thing the camera you're looking at doesn't have is video and 6 year olds love to take videos.

SmellyMurkySky · 04/11/2007 09:37

Yeah but they don't know videos exist ATM.

I was more worried about lack of zoom TBH...

Also I am planning to ask Father Christmas/Mr Bonus in April for a new camera for me, which would leave my current camera surplus which they could use on proper days out...which makes me even more reluctant to spend a fortune.

However DP thinks it is important Father Christmas brings them one of their own not a hand me down

4 x zoom is not bad IMO

I think it only takes the smaller kind of photo, if you were planning to do prints? You'd also need a memory card which they sell for about £7

I think it's fab and have just ordered one - thank you for the link. Ds has been wanting one forever, and we didn't want to get a pricey 'kids' one.

GunpowderDragonsAndSoup · 04/11/2007 09:57

It's 4 x digital zoom. This doesn't give as good quality as an optical zoom. More expensive cameras have something in the order of a 3x optical zoom (and then 12x digital on top.)

Not that this necessarily matters for a 6 year old

peskipixie · 04/11/2007 09:59

thats better than my camera! (except for the no video)

FrannyandZooey · 04/11/2007 10:00

yes I am buying for a 4 year old, I think it will be fine

SmellyMurkySky · 04/11/2007 11:18

Yes Digital zoom is a con, it is not worth taking into the equation. It is EXACTLY THE SAME as cropping afterwards.

Franny I was thinking exactly the same wrt a 'kids' camera. Twice the price for less than half the quality & features...

Tis alright you can start buying now, I have ordered mine.

I also ordered 2 1GB SD cards at £7 each...bargain...
