What car do you drive if you have two children (5 and 4) and a new baby? We have to upgrade by July.

I had a nissan quasqi +2 but the middle seat and boot space was hopeless and drove me potty.

Had a 4th baby last year and upgraded to a ford galaxy. LOVE IT.

I have a Citroen c4 grand Picasso and I absolutely love it! 5 full seats. Isofix across the back and a huuuuuge boot! Plus the extra 2 seats if we ever have cousins come to stay. There are loads of nooks and crannies to hide stuff if you need to use the boot seats. The pram fits in the gap between the front and back seats for example. Can't recommend it enough!

I have a Skoda Kodiaq

The only cars that take 3 car seats across one row are MPVs. At least, that was still the case when we last bought a car a couple of years ago.

We had a Galaxy for 10 years and it was excellent. The best leader MPV in port opinion (and we treated many!). If you're not bothered about using the third row seats, there are many smaller MPVs that look like ordinary cars.

Don't go for one with a smaller middle seat. Even if it works with the car seats, it's a disaster once the dc are out of fully enclosed seats.

Ford S-Max, kids all fit across the middle row then we have back row folded down to make an enormous boot. Can fold the seats back up if we have extra passengers, though the back row fits children only.

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/02/2021 14:23

I had a citreon C4

The back seats are flat and could take three car seats - two babies and a toddler.

I had a Fiat multipla 😂 looks HIDEOUS and was acutely embarrassed to be seen in it but AMAZING for small children. 6 full size seats and a massive boot. Not sure they make them anymore.

S-Max (lovely to drive) and now a Sharan (bit more space, very handy sliding doors). Have been amazed how many 'normal' cars don't fit three seats.

Smax which is great. I would advise you to look at the ford smax, vw touran, ford galaxy. Stay away from Citroen or Renault, they are cheaper for a reason!

Princessbanana · 20/02/2021 19:41

Oh and by the way, I could fit my Icandy frame and the seat for the buggy in the boot of my smax with the two seats up in the boot, that’s what made us buy it, I assume the ford galaxy also has the same size boot.

Ford Galaxy boot is massive. The third row seats fit adults, and still leave enough boot space for a large buggy and a few bags. Once the baby was out of the travel system (ie the large buggy) and using a stroller, we could fit the stroller and all the day-bags for 4 adults and 3 children in the boot with all 7 seats up.

When it was just the 5 of us, e we often picnicked in the boot if it was raining on a day out. 3 dc could sit comfortably around the food in the boot, and dh and I sat on the edge under the shelter of the door.

The boot design was the cars biggest selling point for us: at the time the only way to get 7 adult-size seats was if the last row were removable seats which filled the boot. But in the Galaxy the last row fold into the floor, so there's no heavy lugging and fitting, and the seats are always available. It meant that there was also no spare wheel, so we opted for run-flat tires.

There's nothing elegant about the Galaxy. It is a smart, cleverly-designed and very comfortable workhorse. Only a shame it didn't have sliding doors.
