for the 1 year old how about some sort of push along / pull along thing, or a ride on. They do wooden ones of these in lots of places.

My dd has her b'day on the 23rd Dec so I totally know where you're coming from socci. Last year we brought her a pop up ball pool for her b'day which she loves (when I get it out) and for Xmas we got her a mamas and papas rocking horse. Topaz, it's lovely but she never goes near it. In fact it's still got it's labels on!!
