I want tobuy one for dh for Christmas with a speaker system. Just don't know where to start - how many GB??? What should I be looking for? We just want to have a load of different playlists for family members. Moderately priced speakers for main room and cheapish ones for kitchen I suppose. Please can anyone guide me through the minefield? TIA

This page gives you an idea of how many songs you can fit on the different iPods.

I've got an 8GB Nano 2nd Gen and it's still not full up despite me adding CD's and downloads every other day. I'm not sure about the different sizes etc, but I know you can get ipod speakers on iwantoneofthose.com.

HTH

I've got a 20gig which holds 5,000 songs. I've only used about a quarter of the capacity but it feels like I've got most of my CD collection on it.

Don't buy speakers that are too cheap. They are tinny and nasty and you'll hate them. Buy decent speakers and you'll be happy as Larry. Trust me! I was given cheap nasty tinny (I'm not bitter) speakers which I threw out and I invested in much better speakers and now I can hear my music and no static!

Do you mean an i-Pod, which is a specific brand, or an MP3 player?

i-Pod has become a generic, but there are some other brands that are very good (specifically Creative Zen), but the world has been set up for i-Pods - i.e. all the accessories are for i-Pods rather than other brands.

sorry if this is more confusing than helpful!

I have one of these to play it on and it's fab but expensive.

wheelybug · 28/10/2007 21:46

I went through this recently wiht Dh's birthday. In the end I got him the second largest in size.

Probably going to invest in the bose speakers for sitting room and dining room. He had some travel speakers from my bro which are great- think they were made by JBL.

Do you have surround sound in your living/main room? You can (somehow) plug the ipod into the TV to play it through that system. Don't know how to do it yet cos we've just ordered an ipod

Thank you all, sorry, been away for a while.
Lyrasilvertongue - that reference table is great thanks - think it's going to be the 20GB or the Classic 80GB(but latter is prob too big for his needs).
Marslady - what would you say is 'decent' price. There were some for £20 I saw for the kitchen, then some for £50 I thought for the lounge. Too cheap? I'll have a look at the Bose ones suggested by Wheelybug.
Amazonianwoman - no we don't have surround sound or anything as remotely technical, saddos that we are!
Lyrasilvertongue - like the look of those speakers, but sadly out of price range if I'm getting the ipod too.
Off to mooch around website for prices and spakers now. Thank you for all your ideas.
