Fiat 500

Hi all!

I’ve just purchased a 2014 Fiat 500 Pop. 1.2L Petrol with 38000 miles on the clock and full service history. I’ve had a Peugeot for the last 10 years which cost an absolute fortune to repair numerous times so I was looking for something a little smaller and cheaper to run.

I’ve just told a neighbour what I’ve bought and she’s just told me how terrible fiat are and all the problems she had with hers a few years ago Confused so now I’m panicking I’ve wasted almost 4K on an even less reliable car than my Peugeot (and that’s saying something!)

Any Fiat 500 owners who can share their experiences with the car?

Me! I've had mine for 6 years nearly. Never any problems. It's cheap and reliable. It's cute. It's getting toward the end of its life now (09 plate) but I'm actually struggling to find a suitable alternative.

Ok it's titchy and I probably wouldn't go touring in it.

The only gripe I have is that I can't kero the bloody seats clean.

I had two over nearly 10 years, never any serious issues. I miss them, we now have something “much more practical” which I despise.

Monsterjam · 18/12/2020 11:48

Like previous poster have never had a problem with mine

lljkk · 18/12/2020 11:51

Mine (2011) had a classic problem in ... late 2019? which is the power steering failed and the PS unit had to be replaced. That's one major expense (£600?) in 8 yrs of ownership, so I am quite satisfied with it. Love being able to park in tiny spots.

I have Fiat Panda seat covers on mine.

I wish it had DAB radio, is it's biggest shortcoming. Not a lot of elbow room but I don't mind.

Thank you everyone! I feel a lot better now. Looking forward to collecting it next week Smile

Have you seen it yet or is it a distance sale? If so, pull out and buy a Jazz or a Yaris.

soloedition · 18/12/2020 18:52

@Elai1978 yes, I’ve seen it and test drove it. Would you not recommend Fiat’s?

We have one,a 2013 model and so far never had any issues. Enjoy your new car.

It's getting toward the end of its life now (09 plate)

Whats going wrong with it?

ScarlettDarling · 20/12/2020 20:12

Mine is a 15 plate and has had no problems at all (touch wood!)

ageingdisgracefully · 20/12/2020 22:11

@dawnlassie.

Nothing really. I had to have the alternator done, then the steering failed. I think it's just getting to the point where I'm wondering if it's time to trade it in for something newer.

Shortfeet · 20/12/2020 22:15

I have had 2 . Fab cars , would never have anything else

Oh perhaps 11 years is about the life of a Fiat im not too sure. I would expect you can eek it out longer. Says she driving an 18 year old Passat.

torquewench · 21/12/2020 18:35

You do realise that Fiat is an abbreviation for Fix It Again Tomorrow?

(Only kidding, arent they basically a Nissan Micra with a different body these days?)
