I hope you mean baby bouncere as in cradle rocky things and not employing them as doormen!
Sorry couldn't resist.
We had a mamas and papas one given us as a pressie and it had the settings of vibration and bounce and sounds of birdsong, heartbeat and lullabys on it.
With a bar of rattles on too. He used to likeit and would settle him to sleep, but then it started him making him feel sickly, was sick a couple of times in it. I would say you don't have to spend a great deal on them, but they're ok.

We had one for ours -ds used it quite a bit but dd less so, though not really sure why ! We had the Tippitoes one as it had a supportive but soft "saddle" and could be used from 4 months or when they held their head steady. They used to dance in and enjoyed the freedom of being upright without parental support (meant I could squeeze a cup of tea in or hoover too!!) Personally wouldn't go for a gimmicky one like Tigger because they don't really appreciate it. They don't get a huge amount of usage (lost interest once they could crawl and cruise) so I expect you could get one 2nd hand in really good condition.

We had one passed onto us (can't remember which make it was). All of mine LOVED it, but I was always worried that too long in them wasn't good for their legs. I had this idea (probably quite wrong!) that they would end up with bandy legs and so I'd never let them stay in it for longer than a few minutes! It was quite tricky getting them in and out of it too as I recall.

Another vote for the tippitoes one! Got ours from Tesco.

My daughter loved hers a tiptoes one as well. She used to go beserk in it, used to almost try and run which was quite funny. We have a great home movie of her in it, she looks as if she is tap dancing. As with anything like ths they just shouldn be used under strict supervision and in short bursts. They are only harmful IMHO if overused.

pixiefish · 24/10/2004 13:09

I remember being told that they weren't good for baby- along with the baby walkers that you sit them in and they zoom around. something to do with development and standing on tiptoes if i remember.
My hv didn't like them.

zebra · 24/10/2004 15:07

DS is 4 months old & hates his tippitoes bouncer -- what am I doing wrong? I find it really difficult to get him & out of it...
DS1 loved his bouncer, but that was a different style (since recalled due to a safety problem).

sweetkitty · 24/10/2004 16:00

I am going to look for one on e-bay not going to spend loads on it in case DD doesn't like it.

Our HV said they were ok for 20 mins a day but that Bumbo's were very bad for their hip joints as are baby walkers, so confusing all the conflicting advice.

zubb · 24/10/2004 16:02

ds2 loved his (didn't have one for ds1) and it was great as I could get on and do things and he's be happily bouncing around. He was in it for up to 30 minutes at a time and it doesn't seem to have affected his legs.

whizzz · 24/10/2004 16:40

DS loved his - agan ditto about whats been said about not spending too long in it. No adverse effects on his legs !

throckenholt · 24/10/2004 18:23

my kids all loved door bouncers - even if they didn't bounce they swung around on their toes. Kept them happy for up to 15 mins at a time.

Zebra - leave it for a while - maybe in a couple of weeks he will like it. Maybe change the floor surface - put a towel under him ?
