I'm looking to get a double thats not a phil and ted! The pear looks good. But i know you can upgrade the apple. Anyone had the apple? Whats it like? And whats the cherry?

Anyone?

the pear is just an adaptor that goes onto the apple chassis to turn it into a double- a bit like the mutsy.

fab system- have ordered one for my impending twins

preggersagain · 17/10/2007 14:42

ps pear will not work on cherry chassis

wishingchair · 17/10/2007 14:56

I had the apple ... just sold it on ebay. Great when she was little and in the carrycot but dreadful when she got bigger (she's only 14 months so not exactly massive). Barely steer-able in rear-ward facing mode, unpredictable even in forward facing. It's big, not designed well, and is heavy. Sorry, I'm not a fan. Can't imagine the pear adaptor will make it any better ... surely only more heavy and unwieldy. Really recommend trying it out in a shop and then take with you a few sacks of potatoes (or similar!!) to put in the chairs to see what it will be like with 2 x 2 year olds in it.

If you have total choice for double, I've got friends who love the Jane Powertwin, or the maclaren double, or the Mountain Buggy. Another friend got a double 3 wheeler that also fit through standard doors.

Santasmissyontheside · 17/10/2007 15:05

Oh dear. It looks really nice. I've got a maclaren twin.

do not panic the apple chassis has been improved- it is lighter and more manouverable- and usually wheel probs etc were caused by people not maintaining them- it has been addressed in the new model and i can personally vouch for how good it is

Santasmissyontheside · 17/10/2007 15:14

Oh good. What shop did you trial it? And hope you don't mind me asking how much was it?

OP posts:
preggersagain · 17/10/2007 15:34

in my own shop !!!

it depends on which parts of the system you want- but rougly i have ordered:
apple chassis
pear adaptor
two carrycots
two maxi-cosi's
two seat units
all matching accesories etc

RRP for the whole set is £799

totally dependant on what you need- ie chassis, pear and two seat units is roughly 420 i think (don't hold me to that!)

Santasmissyontheside · 17/10/2007 15:40

Oh right! Well i'd be getting apple, pear adaptor, car seat adaptor- already have maxi cosi, i suppose extra carry cot and seat unit?

OP posts:
littleducks · 17/10/2007 15:40

i had a cherry, used for three months then the chassis had to be replaced due to wheel problems, then the seat frame broke, so basically any bit that wasnt fabric had to be replaced.
Customer service crap as well. They didnt originally recognise that it was manufacturing fault until all the people who bought them, used carrycots no prob than upgraded to seat unoit had same problems then they admitted to a 'dodgy batch'

spookykitty · 17/10/2007 15:49

preggarsagain - I didn't know you were having twins???? Have you revealed yourself yet, I was briefly on the Due in March 08 thread with you.

preggersagain · 17/10/2007 15:56

i'm staying in disguise and yes twins it is!! there are three or four sets on the march thread now- and everyone seems to be having boys so far!!!

spookykitty · 17/10/2007 16:01

congratulations am I allowed to ask what you have already?

I don't go into the March thread as it upsets me a wee bit but I think I might soon to see what everyone is having.

preggersagain · 17/10/2007 16:33

come back and visit us sometime- i know how upsetting it can be, but we're a friendly bunch really

i have twin boys and a daughter already so not particularly hankering for either sex this tme

Piffle · 17/10/2007 16:36

I swapped my apple for a bugaboo when ds was 5 wks old
bloody massive IMO and fiddly nice to push in pram mode though but with 3 wheels in rear facing with a toddler = tipple

spookykitty · 17/10/2007 16:39

OMG so numbers 4 and 5, no really it's twice the blessing

I know I often see the Due in March thread and think of you all, I think once I am pregnant again I will be able to come and say hello.

I was hankering after an iCandy pear you see thats why i was having a nose on this thread. If I get pregnant in the next few months my ideal pram would have a carrycot for the baby or at least a lie flat bit and a toddler seat for DD2 who would be 2 1/2 at least so still needing a pram, I would love a chassis that would be a proper carrycot pram some of the time, a double and then a single with a buggyboard, I think I am asking too much though from one pram.

Santasmissyontheside · 17/10/2007 16:58

Gosh preggers you'll have your hands full!

Spookykitty i use bugaboo and sometimes my mac twin. Dd1 is two in dec and dd2 5wks.

OP posts:
spookykitty · 17/10/2007 17:50

SMOTS - I have 18 months between my first two I had a Twin Aria (hated) and a Graco tandem (hated) so want the perfect pram this time. Will probably end up with a P&T

Santasmissyontheside · 17/10/2007 19:15

I wish bugaboo did a double! We're trying for another already so will definately need a double for occasional use. I'll prob keep my mac twin thats really good. Why didn't you like the aria i quite fancy the idea of new one that you can put car seat straight on

OP posts:
Piffle · 17/10/2007 22:35

bugaboo are doing a dbl I heard...

Santasmissyontheside · 17/10/2007 23:12

Really? Where did you hear that? I dread to think how much!

OP posts:
spookykitty · 18/10/2007 14:57

santa - I hated the Aria with a passion, was narrow and quite light but flimsy with it, rubbish for "bumping" up kerbs as it has small wheels, I reckon if you are going to have two toddlers in a double you need something with big tyres (the Graco was much better), shopping basket was too low and tore after a week (this apparently is a design fault), seats weren't wide enough, DD1 was only 18 months and with a jacket on she looked uncomfy in the seat and she's small, cosytoes didn't fit it properly either. So all in all I didn't get on with it, Graco tandem was better (just)

I am reckoning on a P&T sport TBH if I get pregnant again soon.
