How can I get sky + for less?

I've asked my mum to get us sky + for christmas as I will be on a course next march and probably miss most of my fav. stuff. However when I looked at the site again it said it was £149 plus £30 installation. I'm sure last time I looked it was less. I was wondering if anyone knows of any offers etc that might help me get it a bit cheaper. Mum usually spends about £100 on us so its a bit much at the moment. Thanks

I read somewhere that because the sky plus boxes have just been updated you can buy the old style ones second hand - but don't know any other details sorry.

We phoned up to cancel our sky subs the other week to go down to the equivalent of freesat and they offered us some cheap deal to stay on and get sky plus. We couldn't afford that atm, but I'm sure it was under £100 - might be worth a try though? they like to keep customers, so always offer a retention deal of some kind.

do you need sky channels or will freeview do?
if the latter cancel Sky and use the money you save to get a Humax PVR

i would say chat to one of the blokes in the high street with a stand and barter a bit, mil just got skt plus with multiroom she paid £50 for sky plus box and got second box for ordinary sky free.

Thanks. Can't get freeview or cable here so am stuck with sky. Wish I had the bottle to ring up and threaten to leave but never any good at that sort of thing. Will keep a look out for one of those blokes though. Think there was one in our supermarket ages ago but don't see them round here very often. Cheers

sounds a bit steep- i only had to pay £69 for my sky+ box, then we got a free normal one forthe kitchen and only have to pay £25 p/m inc multiroom and sky+ subscription. tbh we have had trouble with ours so i wouldn't pay that much.
