This memory foam thing they have on beds... what's so good about it?

What's it supposed to do? Why is it worth double a normal mattress?

Anyone know?

It's really comfy and stops you getting aches and pains and also stops your dh/dp from rolling into you and nicking all your side of the bed!

LittleBellaLugosi · 14/10/2007 20:40

So how does it work?

Glad someone raised this thread. I noticed last week that Dunelm were selling them at a much reduced price. £280 as opposed to the normal £400+.

Then I thought.... can you put electric blanket on them? I cannot survive without my blankie!

foofi · 14/10/2007 20:44

FWIW I bought some Tempur pillows and didn't find them comfortable.

Jennster · 14/10/2007 20:52

I spent a week on my back with meningitis in a French hospital with what I assume is the same sort of thing (to stop you getting bed sores). It just did my head in (no pun intended) and I tossed and couldn't turn and didn't get on with it at all. Try before you buy if at all possible.

Hope this helps.

Jennster · 14/10/2007 20:53

I suppose testing a Tempur pillow would be a cheaper way to find out if it's the sort of thing you could find comfy.

I heard they made you sweaty

dyzzidi · 14/10/2007 20:57

We have one and it is built into the mattress IYKWIM. It is fab if you suffer from a bad back. I was told the electric blanket i use helps it mould to you as it uses the heat.

We have a tempur mattress and pillows - although the pillows dont suit me but the mattress is ace. It's quite solid feeling and not bouncy so when you get in you kind of sink into it and it cushions you all over. Tempur are expensive but you get to try it out for 60 days and you're not charged at all until the 60 days are up and if you haven't returned it then they will invoice you/deduct from your card so it's definately worth a try

LittleBellaLugosi · 14/10/2007 21:03

Ooh I've never heard of tempur

Wotsit?

We've recently got a memory foam mattress topper too - much, much more comfortable than the feather one MIL bought us for Christmas last year. I'm pg atm and it's certainly better than the folded duvet I used last time.

themoon66 · 14/10/2007 21:16

this thread is making me feel sleepy

Surfermum · 14/10/2007 21:16

Try here.

We put one on top of our blow up mattresses when we went camping and it was fab.

TinyGang · 14/10/2007 21:20

I've got a pillow. It's ok for propping you up for reading in bed, but I just can't get comfy with it for sleeping.

themoon66 · 14/10/2007 21:23

Surfermum.... they are very good prices.

I'm in luuuurve with my memory foam mattress.
It's the best thing I've ever bought and is sorely missed on holiday.

I used to get sciatica really easily - a day of heavy housework and I'd be hobbling in pain by the evening. Haven't had it once since getting my beloved memory foam mattress .

AeFondKiss · 14/10/2007 21:42

another fan though I have a topper on top of our memory foam mattress, because I have poor circulation and I over heat when I am just lying on it... I am usually very cold so this is a weird thing for me.

really do not like the pillows, they are not the same as the mattress.

it took me about a month to get used to the mattress too, sleeping on it is great and we really miss it when we are not at home... ours was quite cheap bought online for £350 with free delivery.

Tempur is the bees farking knees!
We have the mattresses in 3 bedrooms, and pillows in our room too. You can get different shapes of pillow though - I can't remember what ours are called, but they aren't just a standard pillow shape.
