Baby born or Baby Annabell or Chou Chou or goodness knows what else?

DD will be 5 soon and has been brainwashed by Nick Jr advertising so has decided she would like a baby doll. She's only got one she got as a baby and it "doesn't do anything".

Just had a quick google and am totally bamboozled by the mad variety of talking, burping, weeing, pooing, giggling dolls there are out there.

Her criteria are: talk, eat, poo, bath-able, wee.

Helpful eh? Thinking baby born with magic eyes as it seems to do all of that apart from the talking. Baby Annabell talks (a bit) but don't think you can bath due to batteries.

Please help!

Baby Born IMo is waste of money. DD never uses functions bar the bathable bit, after first week.

clayre · 13/10/2007 14:57

i think the only bathable one is baby born, we have baby born and baby annabell, dd loves them both, baby annabell makes noises, drinks and crys tears, baby born eats 'baby' food and it comes out the other end but doesnt make a noise. i dont know if there is a doll that makes noises and is bathable!

wishingchair · 13/10/2007 15:05

i don't think there is. just asked her which was most important ... the poo or the bath ... she said "both". I think Baby Annabell looks most fun but don't want to under-estimate the attraction of the poo!

Baby Born can say "beep!" if you squeeze her left arm (or is it her right?). She does brilliantly in the bath or pool, good at weeing, fun to play with - there are lots of accessories like clothes & furniture & prams designed for her but she weighs a ton, costs a bomb, she's not cuddly & looks a bit like an alien.

wishingchair · 13/10/2007 15:38

Wow - she says beep!! Good point re: cost. Baby Annabell is £20 at mo at toys r us. Baby born is £34.

Do the clothes from one fit the other?

Baby born does look a bit like an alien I agree.

Baby Annabel looks brain-dead. Most dolls do (with reason!) but even if Baby Born isn't very pretty, she does look vaguely conscious.

We have 4 Baby Borns & dd insists on sleeping with all of them. 2 are "aryan", 1 is "ethnic" & the 3rd is a swimming BB - totally scary what with the head swivelling, arm ratcheting thing going on.

I animate all the dolls & stuffed animals for dd & ds, which is good fun.

Baby Annabel is pretty good - sings, drinks, sucks dummy/ bottle, cries, burps and is fairlyh pretty but is quite heavy to carry around. YOu do get some good accessories with her though.

Re. Baby Born - we find it really hard to make the functions work. The pooing is a real fad, and is messy. The poositioning of the doll on the potty to get it to poo is really tricky. We had done it twice and DD can't be bothered now. Weeing is fine but it just leaks water too much - basically give water in bottle, tip and it wees. Crying takes tons of water. And the beep is not really a beep on our doll - just a bit of a squeak if you squeeze her ar - which after a few baths doesn't manage that most of time. However Baby Born is fab in the bath. DD has Baby Born as it was half price last year. Would never pay full for it.

We have Baby Annabel (mark 2) so just makes noises, sucks dummy/bottle, burbs, etc. DD played witht he functions all the time when she was younger -s he got it as 20 months. Now older - she is 5yo Annabel is rarely turned on. But she is played with far more.

hippipotOFBLOODami · 14/10/2007 21:35

My dd has all 3 of these

Baby Born did not get touched after the first month or so. She is too heavy, making her wee and poo was such a faff, and she spends most her days naked on the side of the bath.

Baby Chouchou is lovely. She has the soft-bodied one which cries and giggles.
We like her a lot.

We only got Baby Annabell when Chouchou broke and was not reparable. Because she has all her functions and is not broken, she is the current favourite. But I preferred the ChouChou myself.

Do not get a baby born. She is just not sofe and cuddely enough, and she is a bit boring.

Also, can I just squeeze in that we did not by dd all 3 dolls. Dh and I bought BB when dd was 2 (mainly for bath play), nanny bought babyCC when dd turned 3 and asked for it (as her best friend had one), and good old grandad then bought babyAnnabell when dd was 4 and crying over her broken CC.

Go for the Annabel, especially at the current price.

iheartdusty · 14/10/2007 22:45

the Annabell at £20 is No 3, not the newest one which can turn its head round at your voice.
however I would be unlikely to allow a doll into my house which can turn its head round at your voice!
The Entertainer has the same Annabell3 for £17 and Argos has some at £14 but stock seems very low.

The arm fell off baby Born yesterday, causing much anguish in our household.

Get one which fits 'generic' outfits sold be ToysRus as Baby Born / Annabel outfits are extortionate.
