Questions about going over to SKY from BT

I am thinking over going over from BT telephone/internet to the SKY package which includes TV, telephone and broadband. If you have done this, I would be interested in knowing how easy it is to quit BT braodband. Also, how much is the basic line rental for BT?

TIA

Basic line rental from BT is about £10ish a month. No idea about broadband but all I can say is Sky is an awful company. We use them as tv reception where we live is awful and we don't have cable. Getting someone to come out to do anything if it involves getting up on some ladders is a nightmare. They sub-con the work out to other companies ... one of whom drilled through the wall (fine) and straight into our soil pipe from our upstairs loo (not fine). A year and a half on it still isn't fixed. The Sky+ box often has irrational wobbly turns. For a while we had sky multi-room and started getting increasingly stroppy letters from them because they were claiming we didn't have it connected to a phone line (why should we??) ... we did have it connected but their crappy installer didn't fit it to the right connection. They just seem to have a very complacent, arrogant attitude.

That said, BT aren't much better ...

Had Sky tv (but only tv) full package for about 8 years now. Never had a problem but have got extra cover with another company that were cheaper than sky for repairs/guarantee. Moved over from BT broadband to Sky broadband in August this year. No problems - didn't have to wait or have a break in service received (as we did 2 years ago when we transferred from Wannadoo to BT!). In the morning we were with BT, in the afternoon, we were with Sky. Only downside is that you notice when it gets busy as your connection slows down a lot (usually Friday night and all weekend) as more users are on.
As long as you are out of your BT contract there shouldn't be a problem. Remember to ask for your code when cancelling broadband as without this to give to Sky you will have to wait a while to be connected (think it's a migration code but it's all on the bt website).
