Hot Wheels Criss Cross Crash - for a four year old?

Got a 4.5 year old who is hell bent on asking Santa for a Hotwheels Criss Cross Crash set - it looks a bit flimsy though! Has anyone bought one? Did it stay together? Did you 4 year old get on ok with it? And, apart from the Hotwheels ones, are there any other cars that fit it?

DS (6) got one last year he got hours of fun from it, so did we on Christmas night with some alcohol on board.
