A computer for the kids to use

We need a computer for the kids (DD y5 DS y3) to use for homework/project work, as after they sprinkled flour over my laptop, I can't risk them damaging it any more.

I'm aiming as cheap as possible, but it must come with enough basic software to use for its purpose, and I want it to last for more than a year. I hate the very cheap/breaks quickly end of the market.

Thanks for any advice.

PS It is very. much "a computer for the kids to use", NOT "the kids' computer"!
