Can anyone recommend me a digital camera?

Ideally max price of £150 and one of the more compact ones.

I've been looking at them today and am totally baffled. The guy in the camera shop warned me off the very slim ones with 7mp or more as he says its too many megapixcels to cram into a small camera and that the picture quality suffers. But dh reckoned that was a load of rubbish.

Then this same bloke recommended the Fuji Finepix f40fd. But it gets bad reviews on Amazon.

Also none of the cameras these days seem to have a viewfinder. My mum got rid of her LCD screen camera as she could never see the screen when the sun was shining on it. Anyone else find this a problem?

Thanks.

It is a fantastic little camera and takes great snaps.

I have a Panasonic Lumix which is excellent- they have Leica lenses, and very big LCD screens. I do think it's worth thinking about the lens quality as well as the number of megapixels. Steve's Digicams is a good comprehensive review site.

I have the Panasonic Lumix (FX01) and am very pleased with it. It is easy to use and I also like the big screen.

My Mum asked about the viewfinder when she was looking for a new camera, the guy in the shop said that hardly any of the new cameras have them, and that was a year or so ago.

I have the Panasonic Lumix as well. I think it's great. I was worried about not having a view finder, but you soon get used to it.
