Major service, almost fainted at the cost!

Have a Nissan Juke and I took it for its major service at my usual garage. I've taken it there for the last three years in a row. Last year was a minor at £150, 2018 was £250 for a major. DH collected the car and was charged £368 for the service. I couldn't believe it! Is this the new normal price? Covid impact? He didn't question it, though I would have.

Do you mean that's just the cost to do the service or the whole cost including anything they found needed doing while they were servicing it?

IsaLain · 14/08/2020 13:48

What do you mean by major service?
Do you mean it had its service and needed a major repair?

How much was the fee for the service? And what were the repairs and associated costs?

They should have called you before doing any work to give you prices etc.

You should take out a service plan - it makes it much cheaper and easier to budget for. I pay £20 a month and it covers all services and MOTs. Oh and it gives me breakdown cover too.

Is this a Nissan dealership? They have fixed prices for servicing - about £200 ish for minor and £300 ish for major. It does include a year's UK and European recovery though so I've always found it quite a good deal.

I didnt realise they were called major services.
My garage calls them master services! They cost around £200.
The rest of your payment must have been for whatever needed fixing.

I've got a Nissan Juke. When I bought it in 2018 I paid upfront for a 36 month service plan. It cost £290.83 plus Vat so £348.96. So glad I did when I see how much minor and major services cost. I know its not always an option for everyone but definitely worth it if you can afford it.

Considering the cheap shit that Nissans are made out of, I am not surprised at those service costs.

Imagine what they had to replace to keep that Puke-Juke roadworthy!! 😂

You don't say which engine your car has and how old it is: there are "major" services and then there are major services.

If it's a 1.5 dCi and needs a cambelt change, or some new brake discs to get it through its MOT, for example, then I think you did well. Air and diesel filter changes also rack up the costs.

We've got a Dacia Logan 1.5 dCi (same platform as the Juke) and it doesn't strike me as especially outrageous if there was more work than normal to be done, although I'd be a bit miffed if they had done anything over and above the service schedule without my authorisation. With Renault dealers they have a fixed price service which is given when you drop it off. Maybe get the Juke serviced at a Renault place next time?

Elai1978 · 15/08/2020 12:28

Was it due a coolant or brake fluid change? No point moaning about the cost of a ‘major’ service unless you know exactly what’s been done.

Burnthurst187 · 16/08/2020 09:54

Can you detail what has been done?
