I have a secondhand Silver Cross pram and need to buy a new mattress. The Silver Cross ones from Babybirds are £25 plus postage - I can see why they are more expensive as they have the stitched crease where the sit-up bit in the pram goes. Is this necessary, or does a £11 foam crib mattress from Mothercare work just as well? Anyone who has used one, please let me know! Thank you

Hi I just got plain foam one from a mattress seller on ebay - big warning, you need to make sure you get the right size, I doubt whether mothercare sell them in the correct size???? I also had problem getting fitted sheets, crib ones work better - I may have a few spare I could sell if you're interested, mine was a medium silver cross not one of the extra large ones IYSWIM

The Mothercare one is about 2cm short, which seems OK (I make the internal size of the pram 77cm x 35cm, the mattresses are 75cm x 35cm in Mothercare)

Thanks for the sheets offer but I have some crib sheets which should be OK from last time.

Did/does your foam mattress bend OK with the backrest up? And does this give you big gaps with the sheet?

i tried to get away with a cheap mattress but the next day i gave in and bought the expensive silver cross one- the crib one just didn't work with the backrest- sliding around and rucking up!

you know I can't remember it causing a problem but I did use one of those rubbery anti slip mats under the mattress though?

OK, am going to try this shop on eBay:

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7758385322

I asked about the Silver Cross mattresses and they said they just needed to know length, width, and where it is hinged and they will do for same price as standard. Will give it a go!
