A friend of ours has a Wii with the sports pack. DS loved it, and we think we'll buy it for Christmas.

But I don't know what we need, and even the Nintendo website doesn't make it clear.

We want to be able to play the sports with ds.
I know we need a console, and Wii sports, but do I need to buy an extra remote? What is Wii play, which is bundled in one of the deals?

The wii's seem to come with wii sports it is helpfull to have a second controller so that you can play 2 player tennis & Baseball but you can cope with one. We got our pack from toys r us and it came with a tennis racket and golf club.
If you need another controller Wii play is worth getting as it is about £35 and incluse another remote and remotes are £30 on their own. I haven't managed to track a store that has wii play in stock locally to me though!

Furball · 01/10/2007 12:30

wii play is another game with lots of mini games and comes with free extra handset so worth getting.

you need the console, which i think will come with a handset

the wii sports game

and a 'nunchuck' if you want to play things like boxing on wii sports (not sure if this comes with the console)

clumsymum · 01/10/2007 12:31

but what IS Wii Play, what does it do?

clumsy you don't strictly need an extra remote, but for some games it's better, like tennis, baseball, boxing etc. Otherwise people just have to take turns playing against the computer iyswim. With an extra remote you can both play at the same time, interactively, which is great.

We have Wii play, which has a few mini games, but tbh we never really used it, just the sports. I managed to find a bundle with Wii play which was virtually the same price as a normal Wii.

Hulababy · 01/10/2007 12:37

Wegot a Wii a couple of weeks ago.

Best high street deal we found at that time was with Game. For £235 we got the Wii, which comes with Sports, Wii Play (as that comes with the second controller so really do need it) and then a game of our choice - we chose My Sims.

Wii Play is a selection of about 8 or 9 mini games. Comes with that all important second controller! You need a second controller for two player games, esp in Sports for tennis, etc.

We also have Brain Academy - which DD loves - Boogie (complete with moicrophone) and Tiger Woods Golf.

Hulababy · 01/10/2007 12:39

We got one controller and one nunchuck with the Wii, as well as Sports - was £199 with a second game of our choice (from about 5 to chose from).

We don't have a spare nunchuk at present and manage fine.

MintyDixCharrington · 01/10/2007 12:43

we have console, four controllers and two nunchucks
no idea why
we were given it and apparently this is what is needed

clumsymum · 01/10/2007 12:44

Cheers, now I'm starting to understand.

Am I investing in a money pit, which will cost us a fortune in additional games?

We think we'll buy soon, while there might still be deals about, rather than the pre-xmas rush.

OK, I am also in the same dilema. I have got a Wii with sports & the sports accessories pack.
I will get the WiiPlay
Do I need a Numchuck - what games other than boxing which someone mentioned is it needed for?
What about the charger for the controllers?
Anything else?

Basically I am getting dh the Wii, DS is giving him WiiPlay & DD the sports accessories pack.

But my sister, my parents etc etc will be asking for ideas hence asking about the numbchuck & charger

Hulababy · 01/10/2007 12:48

Games cost about £20-£40 each, most beong £30. You can get preowned games in Game for a bit cheaper though.

Hulababy · 01/10/2007 12:49

Debbie - I am playing My Sims at the moment and that uses the nunchuck. DH's Tiger Woods golf can use the nunchuck but optional, as is it's use with Boogie. It says on the outside of the Games boxes which games use the nunchuck. We are finding it perfectly fine with just one for now though.

Hulababy · 01/10/2007 12:49

No idea about charger. We just have AA batteries in them.

clumsymum · 01/10/2007 12:51

what is the nunchuck then?

OP posts:
Lolcats · 01/10/2007 12:53

Wii play is great for mini games
Zelda and paper mario are fabulous rpg games
you won't need as many nunchuks as controllers, because not all games use them, but useful to have two for 1 on 1 games

nutcracker · 01/10/2007 12:53

You need a nunchuck for the boxing game on Wii Sports too.

Despite dh buying it for him, we have found that ALL our friends (m & f) have wanted to play when they come round, MIL, etc
The wii sporst and wii play games are just really fun social games
dd is desparate to play, but a little bit young (20 mo). She is rationed to watching daddy play for 10 mins.

Thanks for those replies. I will be ordering the Wii Play from that link as it does appear to be the cheapest.

Is it me or are the prices rising and everywhere appears to be out of stock?

Lolcats · 01/10/2007 13:29

Christmas is coming!

clumsymum · 01/10/2007 13:43

Hmmmm everywhere do seem to be out of stock, even John Lewis.

I'll probably buy on the high street, as soon as we hear about a job/contract for dh (cross your fingers).

I bought a Wii with sports thingy from Play.com last week £179 and delivered 48 hours later (no charge). I had to look around a bit because you're right, lots of places are showing out of stock.

Hulababy · 01/10/2007 14:04

Clumsymum - in the shops here in Sheffield I had no problem getting hold of one - and this was only in ast week or two. Game had loads. Virgin was out of stock. HMV had them in stock. So did Woolworths and Argos.

Woolworths had them online, as did Virgin.

Spidermama · 01/10/2007 14:06

PMSL. I'm asking the same question but about a PS2. How out of date am I?
Still it saves so much money being hideious behind the times and I can pretend I've been taking a moral stance.

clumsymum · 05/10/2007 19:48

Oh damn, We went into Nottingham today, and nobody has any stock, tried EVERYWHERE.

I've looked online, and the only places with stock are charging nearly £100 over the odds, which takes it above the amount I've budgeted.

No one is offering to take orders either.

I thought I'd got this idea well before xmas, but it seems I haven't.

Anyone know of any in stock anywhere?
