My paperwhite is dead - can I buy an different e-reader that uses Kindle books

I have lots of books, & I re-read often

So ideally I want a non-amazon e-reader that I can still read the books on - does it even exist?

Most android tabs will allow you to download the kindle app.

I like the paperwhite screen/light would they be able to mimic that?

Tablets don't have the same light quality but you can change the lighting a bit to try and replicate.

I find reading on tablets tiring because the light it quite intrusive but it is a passable alternative.

Don't know much about other e-readers...I'm too much of a Kindle fan (much to my amazon bad guy shame)

You can. I have a Sony tablet and use some software to convert the kindle files and manage the books on the tablet. The added advantage is that you can also use the epub format which libraries use for ebooks and also read pdfs.

Sorry, it's an e-reader not a tablet so has the same type of screen as a paper white

Why do you want a non kindle reader? What's wrong with a kindle?

Well Amazon aren't a massively ethical company; and my current Kindle did not last very long

IF I can I'd like to look at alternatives, if I can't I'll have another kindle

This is a super old thread but I just wanted to say that my paperwhite is still going strong 8 years on...maybe you were just unlucky op?

I would love to know if it's possible to put my purchased kindle books on another ereader though. I hate that I cant get ebooks from the library!
