I have rebooted it, returned to factory settings thrown it across the room
Help me I'm going insane!

Oh god I am on an online chat

apparently a 40 sec reboot will fix it

Well if it does I'll be shocked rigid!

My Paperwhite did that, none of the suggested remedies worked and we came to the conclusion that it was dead. 18 months old too, so out of guarantee which was annoying.

Good luck with yours!

KatyMac · 23/07/2020 11:31

mine is 2 years old and I will be pissed if it's broken

Whatelse reads kindle books do you know - I'd kind of like to leave but I have a large library

Latest idea is factory reset then plug into the computer for 30 mins

We will see!

You could add the Kindle app to your phone or ipad (probably other tablets too) but I don't think it's compatible with other ereaders.

Do keep us informed - I've done the reset and plug into computer to no avail...

KatyMac · 23/07/2020 14:17

they have told me it's broken and given me 15% off a new one

I pointed out I was neither patient nor understanding (when they said I was) but that I was polite and well mannered and wouldnt take out my anger on some poor person on the online chat and I was bloody furious and extremely grumpy and cross

Can buy another one now anyway as I have no money cos of covid and although my mum died and left me some I haven't got it yet

I think I am a little anxious/upset atm

I'm so sorry to hear that, both about your Kindle but mostly about your mum. When we're feeling fragile something like this that's normally a frustration takes on bigger significance. Hope you're feeling better soon. x

Thanks @BurningTheToast

Sorry

Under ec regs electrical equipment has a 2 year guarantee. Got DH's changed about 4 years ago when 1 part of the screen went awol

BurningTheToast · 23/07/2020 16:18

Really Newtb? That's good news - off to see how I get on with that. I'll report back!

BurningTheToast · 23/07/2020 17:00

Right. I opened a live chat thing with one of Amazon's customer service people - they have options that take you to problems with their own devices. And I explained that it was completely unresponsive and I had tried all the charging from computer, holding button down for 40 seconds and so on to no avail.

And they're sending me a new one!

@KatyMac - I tried to download the chat transcript so you could use it as a script but that wasn't an option. When I told them it was dead, I did add that 'under EU statutory regulations electrical goods have a 2 year warranty' but in a friendly way, just as though that had prompted me to contact them. They went through a few questions, checked my shipping address and said it will be with me tomorrow. Am shocked, really. Off you go!

@newtb Thank you so much!

KatyMac · 23/07/2020 19:21

I'm stuffed then as mine was bought May 2018

Really glad you got one @BurningTheToast

I think I got lucky with my paperwhite.
I've had it for 7 years and i use it daily with very few issues!
Its done the restarting thing but after rebooting it seems fine.

I've already decided that when it does give up the ghost I'll buy another one through Amazon on the pay over 5 months thing.
I don't think I could live without it!
Maybe that's an option op?

KatyMac · 04/08/2020 17:24

I 'may' have fixed it

I let it run out of battery
Charged it a tiny bit
Deregistered it
Hard reboot
Return to factory settings
Let it run out of charge again
Start then register

Its been OK for 4 days......

Pleasure, glad they're behaving. I'm in France and when stbxh's went weird there was nothing they could do and we looked at reconditioned ones. Then, had a Google, rang them, and as you did, mentioned it and 2 days later the new one arrived. Complete miracle for France as customer service is virtually unheard of.

Pisses me off when big megabucks companies like amazon don't play by the rules.

Funny how none of them have informed their call centre/chat staff about this regulation. Hmm....
