if you have ever used an online bank would you recommend it? I'm very unhappy with my bank (they can't send out a simple form without making a meal of it) and am wondering about smile? Any other good ones I should look at?

I do online banking with barclays- the only time I go into the branch is to deposit money or withdraw. I do all transfers, pay bills, set up direct debits, cancell direct debits etc etc online AND I LOVE IT

I am with Nationwide and do most of my banking on-line. It's brilliant. Really easy to use. I do lots of transferring money back and forth between accounts and it's so easy.

codswallop · 14/10/2004 15:38

Find Lloyds TSB very good online, tatt. But have no experience of any others.

zubb · 14/10/2004 15:47

find egg great, and you can look at accounts that you hold with other banks from there too, so only need to go through all the log in process once.

bakedpotato · 14/10/2004 15:47

LOVE first direct

Tommy · 14/10/2004 15:49

We've been with smile for about 4 years and never had any problems with them but I've never been one for saying that any bank was great...as long as they do what they're supposed to then I'm usually happy

tatt · 14/10/2004 15:54

Its first direct I'm unhappy with.......and hearing of someone else's problems with lloyds means I couldn't go to them. Off to look at egg....

Smile for us to, they are really good.

ponygirl · 14/10/2004 16:29

We use Halifax which I always thought were excellent, but have just discovered some discrepancies between the statement they post and the one I print out online. Basically, rather than credit money to refund a mistaken debit, they just erased the mistake. To my mind, that's altering the history, and I don't like it . Don't know if this practice is peculiar to Halifax or all banks, but I'm going to be watching much more closely from now on.

nutcracker · 14/10/2004 16:29

I do mine online with Barclays and i love it as i hate going into the bank and it means i can check how poor i am within seconds

JanH · 14/10/2004 17:37

Alliance & Leicester online, brilliant, and you can make cash payments in at the PO. (Handy for me as nearest A&L branch is 15 miles away!)

JoolsToo · 14/10/2004 17:38

We do it with RBS - very handy!

krocket · 14/10/2004 17:41

First Direct - banked with them for 10 years, they are really good

tatt · 15/10/2004 07:06

very impressed by alliance and leicester's interest rates if we had £1000 a month to pay in. Will have to ask them if that's an average for the year.

We bank with Cahoot and they are shit. Don't go there!

marthamoo · 15/10/2004 07:25

smile (Co-op's internet bank) - can't recommened highly enough, fantastic Customer Service and ethical banking too!

Moomin · 15/10/2004 07:55

am currently switching from barclays to smile gradually. much prefer smile already - everything seems so much simpler.

Nome · 15/10/2004 09:51

I'm with smile and they seem quietly helpful and efficient.

spacemonkey · 15/10/2004 09:54

Another recommendation for smile from me. Excellent.
