Would this make a good family car and would an extended rear facing car seat fit in okay?

For that sort of money, I'd go for something better than an X1.

Hyundai Tuscon or Kia Sportage. Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, Subaru Forester or even Mazda CX-5.

You'll get bombproof cars with better efficiency and more space too.

Which one would you choose out of those and why?

Biggest out of those is the Honda CR-V.

I have a 2019 CR-V and love it. Its the 5 seat, not 7 seat model and so the boot is massive and bigger than all those listed.

After that, I'd go for the Tuscon, as it has a nicer interior than say the RAV4, which is hideous. The RAV4 is a great car, but I cant get past its interior and thats where you're sat when driving.

Forester/CX-5 and Sportage are all joint 4th place.

I'm not a fan of my X3. I'd have my old rav4 over it any day. Don't let them kid you about the x drive. It's shit. The rav 4x4 will drive through anything. I've not had any experience of other SUVs.

All of the cars I mentioned will ALL come with far more kit as standard in contrast to the BMW X1.

Looks arent everything. Practicality is. You cant even seen the exterior of the car when driving.

Look beyond the X1, far better and superior and reliable cars out there to grab.

Yes - 100% factually backed up by how abysmal and awful they are.

I’d give the X1 a swerve unless mediocrity is your thing.
