anyone know anything about mobility scooters? (Help!)

sorry I know its a bit off-topic but it is for my mum and this is mumsnet
Anyway I'm looking at scooters on ebay but its a bit mind-boggling and I'm not sure what sort of thing to go for.
It needs to be really compact (max 110cm) to go in the lift.
It needs to be maneoverable (tight turn through the door)
It needs to be stable (shes very unsteady so would lean a lot getting on and off)
The 3 wheel models seem smaller and more maneoverable but I'm worried they might not be too stable. She only needs it to nip to the shops etc.
Has anyone got any recommedations (or warnings!)?
Help! Yet another job 'd like to get out of the way.
