I didn’t tax my car

I’m so stupid. My tax was due on 30 June. I got the V11 a few weeks beforehand but put it away in the drawer as I wasn’t planning on renewing it until the end of June when I got paid anyway.

Anyway, I have had a million and one things to remember and I completely forgotten about it until I stumbled upon the V11 letter yesterday and caught onto the fact my tax had expired 8 days ago. I even checked on the DVLA website and it says my car is untaxed.

I have just taxed it there now, I have been driving the age since. Will I get into trouble? I’m so paranoid I’ll end up getting a big fine in the post or my car ending up clamped!!

Nope I did the same and did it yesterday it will be fine Op

You’ll be fine, don’t panic. There’s a bit of a grace period I believe so if you haven’t had anything so far it should be fine.

SepticTankYank · 08/07/2020 14:39

You might get a letter but I doubt it. Officially there isn't a grace period but you get about 14days before they send any letter out.

I work for a lease co. We had a car untaxed for months and only got one letter Blush

@SepticTankYank I hope so! I’m worried that I’ll have passed a police camera during my journeys and they’ll have seen it was untaxed and a police letter will be on its way!

If you passed a police car with a camera they probably would have pulled you there and then. I'm sure you'll be fine. I thought I had sorned my car once years ago and hadn't. I think the fine was £100 odd quid. Which while not ideal is not that bad. Technically, you have paid the money for that time now anyway. Wink

I think you get a last chance to pay letter a week or two after it expires, so should be all ok

Mine was due at the end of April and I forgot. I think it was about 10th May when I taxed it and I've not heard anything.

3 years ago I got my car MOT just before I went away. My MOT due just before tax.
Put reminder in phone to tax car. But forgot I needed the actual letter with the reference. 🤦‍♀️

Had to drive back 150 miles with no tax on a BH.

Never had a letter. Car was taxed within half an hour of getting home I was so paranoid Grin

Should add I didn't specifically drive back to tax it. That was day I was coming home and a day after tax expired

Thanks all. Going by your responses, it sounds like I’ll be fine!
