Barbie Light & Sounds Vanity Mirror - where to buy?

shown here

We saw this in Harrods for £90 at the weekend. DD would adore it and we feel she would use it loads. But it seemed a tad expensive, and from experience, we have found Harrods a little over priced For example we saw Cabbage Patch Kids at £25 there when they are £20 elsewhere...

This seemed so much more tougher and less fragile than majority of the similar style vanity tables around, which is why we liked it.

However, it is out of stock on Amazon and on site above. Not yet found it anywhere. Not even on e-bay.

Has anyone else seen one, for less than £90?

Well, sorry, Hula, but I think even £50 is expensive for some pink plastic tat - even with lights, sound and real cosmetics (esp cosmetics) - for a 2-yr-old. And £90 is outrageous.

I know you didn't ask for opinions...

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:30

Have to say that in RL it is not really tat at all - and looked pretty good and very substantial. And she wouldn't be having any make up bits, apart from the pretend plastic stuff. But can't see what is wrong with her enjoying a vaniy mirror, brush and pretend hair drier TBH. She's girly girl and loves dress up. No problem for me.

Besides we'd be the ones paying for it...no one else.

Does anyone have any idea of where it may be available so I can judge further please? Thank you.

no idea where you can get hold of it hula but it looks lovely.
you don't fancy this instead?

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:39

That's pretty. I like it Trouble is it does look quite big (rapidly running out of room in DD's bedroom!) and DD being a typical child - she loves the flashng lights, etc. But I will go and have a look at this one in the flesh too - I drive by Toys R Us on way to work. I know many of the other plastic ones around are very flimsy looking.

hi hula i've found it - and your dd will love it i can see her face now

argos have it for £49.99 but it's only availble through the argos extra stores and not on-line...

tamum · 12/10/2004 22:42

Hula, have you tried ringing or emailing mailorderexpress? They've been pretty good at giving out information about delivery schedules and so on when I've dealt with them in the past. It does look rather as though it's been discontinued, Barbie things always seem to come and go so quickly.

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:42

FD - going to have a look; you may well be a star! You have met DD - you see where I'm coing from! She was entraced by it anyway in the shop and would have stayed playing for ages.

OP posts:
Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:44

tamum - I'll give that a go too if not avalable in Argos

fairydust · 12/10/2004 22:46

it has to be the argos extra hula as the oridnary book doesn't have them

hope you get it looks fab and she deserves it.

i saw a lovely book in M&S today about being a ballet dancer and it just reminded me of your dd

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:51

Cheers FD - will go on Friday and try and get a big Catalogue (I know the one you mean). We have a Extra store in Sheffield centre - 5 minutes away Can ask in store if necessary.

She's not really asked for much else for Christmas yet - other than the ELC Enchanted Palace, and some Happy Land stuff. Have huge family though - so been compiling a much requested Christmas list. Some of our relatives seem to buy earlier and earlier.

You made any decisions yet?

Aero · 12/10/2004 22:53

Hula - dd has the ELC one - comes with drawers, pretent perfume bottles, hairdryer, tunes and a sturdy little stool - thought it had lights too, but either it doesn't or dd's don't work - need to investigate that! It cost £20 though and she just loves it! She's also into 'real' make-up now though and comes downstairs looking beautiful (ahem, hilarious) sometimes. IMO, a real bargain! Can't help with the other one though as haven't seen it, but highly recommend this one. Also, it's not too big!

fairydust · 12/10/2004 22:53

A few we've ordered the keyboard from ELC and brought some fancy dress from there as well.

Wer'e hoping to do a big ELC shop at the end of the month and then what we don't get off the list grandparents etc mostly get.

But like your dd the list is endless but ha there only little once

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:53

Will go and look at that too Aero - always open to suggestions!

here it is HTH!

Aero · 12/10/2004 22:56

Yes - it should have lights!!!

Aero · 12/10/2004 22:57

that's pretend bottles!!!

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:58

Exactly FD. I love all this Christmas stuff. We normally do it other way round though - we give family first choice on the list and then see what we will get from the rest. But as only grandchild on both sides...that's a lot.

All I do so far is that PILs are getting her the pink ELC easel and I know that DH's grandad is making her a wooden chest for dressing up clothes. They'll probably get her clothes too, not toys. He's also making her a wooden dolls house - but that will probably not be ready until her birthday. Bless him, he loves doing all this. He's allowed to spend 1 hour a day in the garage doing his woodwork - so far he's made her a wonderful lilac and pink desk, and a cute little scooter

DD has that ELC keyboard and stool - she loves it. We get woken many a morning to her delightful tunes Especially now she has decided the microphone is great too!

Hulababy · 12/10/2004 22:59

What's with ELC today - half of the stuff I have looked at are out of stock, like the vanity unit.

OP posts:
fairydust · 12/10/2004 23:00

it's not dd i'm worried about waking me up it's dh we left him in ELC today today playing on it he's felt so silly when he realised we'd already left.

DD is also the only grandchild and is lucky enuogh to have great grandparents as well...

We brought some xmas decorations as well today just to get us in the mood

Aero · 12/10/2004 23:01

Did the link work Hula - I'm sure it will be available again pretty soon!

Hulababy · 13/10/2004 08:52

It did thanks Aerro

LOL FD! DD has a good selection of great grandparents too, and I come from a large family - I have 13 aunts/uncles as it is, all with own children now. DH's family not as big but still plenty of them.

Downside, obviously, is we have a fair few presents to buy for too.

Don't care though. Love Christmnas. Love buying pressies for everyone

pixiefish · 30/10/2004 09:25

Did you get this Hula?
Mothercare are doing something similar at the moment and it's here

Hulababy · 30/10/2004 18:38

We have decided to get this for DD's birthday in April now - but it is definitely top of the list for then. We are getting her the VTech V.Smile as her main Christmas pressent now. oping to have moved by her birthday and will have a bit more room. I just know she'll love it
