i am sick of all the games i have to play with my two children (4 and 6), Party Party, and other various inane board games. anyone found anything they can actually stomach. sadly they are unable, as yet, to get the hang of chess!

Shut the Box, Uno (card game), old-fashioned Ludo are all popular in our house despite being old and unflashy. The 4 year old will struggle with Uno and also Shut the Box unless he/she is a maths whizz

I don't know what you've tried so far but DS(4) plays Snakes and Ladders, Ludo, Junior Monopoly, Dominoes, Guess Who, Build a Beetle...They're all quite bearable. It depends on what you've been playing which you find inane though!

Mousie · 24/09/2007 18:06

ludo and junior monopoly sound appealing - thanks.

Favourites in this house (dd is 5) are uno, build a beetle, revenge, connect four, 3d snakes and ladders, guess who.

this shop is brilliant for dirfferent types of games. The staff are also knowledgeable as to what is suitable for children.

My DP usually goes over to Germany every October(not this year though, due to imminent arrival of No.2) as they are really into their games over there and produce some brilliant childrens games that Spirit games will often stock.

uno
cluedo vvg

PandaG · 24/09/2007 18:28

junior cluedo fun too. Agree that Uno is fab, DD is 5 and can just about play on her own. Balloon Lagoon fun for younger ones, and Cadoo good for slightly older ones - better if they can read independently!

pointydog · 24/09/2007 18:38

Frustration, although basic, always a favourite.

What's that brain one? Is it cadoo? There's a junior version which is fun for adults too.

NorthernRockCod · 24/09/2007 18:39

nah
tis crap

NorthernRockCod · 24/09/2007 18:39

what abotu mousie mousie?

foxinsocks · 24/09/2007 18:40

we love the Uno one that shoots out cards (dunno what it is called)

and Checkers, extremely popular at the moment. It's quick and easy to get the hang of and you can play it in Starbucks by chopping up bits of a giant chocolate coin foil and making them into gold and silver pieces (some of the tables are boards!).

pointydog · 24/09/2007 18:41

we atill have connect 4 challenges.

Doesn't that sound fun

ChasingSquirrels · 24/09/2007 18:45

I quite like Guess Who, dominoes, rummikub.
Must try ds on uno.
I also play cards with him, basic games, but above the snap level which is mind numbing.

foxinsocks · 24/09/2007 18:47

also dots and boxes good and they can play that with each other (win win)

wheresthehamster · 24/09/2007 18:51

Simpsons Uno.
Card games we enjoy - sevens, fish, pig (my fave) knockout whist

Mousie · 24/09/2007 19:06

uno intriguing - but would a four year old manage it?

thanks for the spirit shop link too

getting quite excited about ordering some new stuff and getting some order into our lives in return.

mousie mousie, now that takes me back..

There's a Disney version of Trivial Pursuit with very easy kids' questions and very hard adults' ones if you happen to watch lots of Disney films

Mousie · 24/09/2007 19:12

so i am thinking, uno, cluedo and someone else mentioned Don't wake dad - anyone know this one??
