My washing machine has died...

I wonder if anyone could recommend a new one, or if anyone has any horror stories of machines to avoid? Haven't bought a new one for about 20 odd years! Nothing special about the washing, family of four, gets used most days, nothing too dirty. Any help appreciated, thank you.

Make sure they are delivering inside your property (and fitting/removing the old one if you require this) before ordering!

TrickyWords · 05/06/2020 17:20

No recommendations I’m afraid but came on to also say check they will being it in for you unless you have lots of muscle waiting to do that!

woodhill · 05/06/2020 17:27

I bought an LG from John Lewis recently. Love it

Flymetothetoon · 05/06/2020 17:31

No recommendation but when my current one dies I want a Samsung Ecobubble just for the tune it plays at the end!

Flymetothetoon · 05/06/2020 17:33

@Livingonanisland if your current machine has lasted 20 years I'd stick with that brand (and please share what brand that is)

LivingOnAnIsland · 05/06/2020 18:06

woodhill yes I saw LG washing machines recommended on a site. John Lewis aren't currently fitting washing machines I don't think, and I do need the old one taken away.

Flymetothetoon it's a Hotpoint, don't think it was anything special, I've had it repaired a few times and in all honesty I should have replaced it a while ago as different programmes have stopped working but I've just made do.

I have had an LG and a Samsung EcoBubble and recommend both, I only left the LG behind because I moved house and the machine stayed put.

Holothane · 05/06/2020 18:09

A zanusi I’ve had m9ne 6 years lovely machine.

esmereldaP · 05/06/2020 18:13

LG with direct drive. Can't fault it.

Alfiemoon1 · 05/06/2020 18:14

Very pleased with my Samsung eco bubble

ThomasHardyPerennial · 05/06/2020 18:15

I have an LG too. It's at least 7 years old, and as good as the day I bought it. I think it was just over £300.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 05/06/2020 18:15

I always buy from ao.com

bluefoxmug · 05/06/2020 18:20

whatever you end up buying, give indesit rhymes with shit hotpoint, whirlpool a big berth.

Jenjenn · 05/06/2020 18:32

I bought a Bosch during lockdown from a local shop and I am very pleased so far. Last Bosch lasted 14 years. It was delivered to the drive only with no installation offered and we had to put the old one out on the drive to have it collected during delivery. They do weigh a ton but dh was ok with the lifting.

woodhill · 05/06/2020 18:33

Yes I was lucky that DH could fit it. Our other one is still around

They have them on AO but the JL was a really good offer and a newer model. I was surprised how quick the cycles are, no different to my 10 year old one as some now take forever.

Also wanted a large drum

Paperchainpopp · 05/06/2020 18:49

Samsung products are fantastic they also offer the best warranty as a result.

DoIneed1 · 05/06/2020 18:55

Please don't buy a Bosch. I have gone through 4 in less than 3 years (three replaced each time by Bosch as within 2 year guarantee). I will never buy a Bosch again.

TheCatsHouse · 05/06/2020 19:39

If you can afford it a Miele- they last for a very long time, are well made and extremely reliable

TheCatsHouse · 05/06/2020 19:53

In saying that I have had one for 14 years an it looks like new

Squiffy01 · 05/06/2020 19:55

We got a Bosch delivered today to replace our old one that lasted 7+ years... can’t remember how old it was.
AO still hook it up and take old one away but there good deals a aren’t so good when you had in delivery, fitting and taking away.
We were going to go with John Lewis but they aren’t fitting and are currently dropping at the door I believe.

Appliance direct have some good deals and although it lets you click to pay extra for taking old machine away we rang to check before buying and they aren’t currently.

I liked the look of a lot of Samsung ones but was on the phone toy dad and he said lots were catching fire in Australia so I went off them.

HoldMyWeave · 05/06/2020 21:04

For anyone wondering about the Samsung Eco bubble noise....

YorkshireParentalPerson · 05/06/2020 21:13

I have a Samsung eco bubble which washes really well, but omg it makes the whole house vibrate when it spins. We have rubber pads under the feet, it's level, we have an inflatable cushion on top of it to stop it wandering over the kitchen. It is apparently a very common problem and I wish I'd known before I bought it. I will never buy one again.

LivingOnAnIsland · 06/06/2020 08:23

HoldMyWeave love the Ecobubble song

YorkshireParentalPerson I haven't seen that in the reviews, will investigate further.

OP posts:
YorkshireParentalPerson · 06/06/2020 09:01

Yes it wasn't in any of the reviews I saw either but if you google it there are loads of comments from people trying to solve the issue!

bluefoxmug · 06/06/2020 09:04

that's the issue with large drums.
if you don't fill them 'correctly' with enough clothes then the imbalance can cause the machine to not spin smoothly.
