Winter maternity

Is it just me or have none of the maternity collections noticed winter is round the corner? Jumpers and especially coats are few and far between. Most of the cardigans have an open front when you do find them. Not ideal for blustery gales! Anyone seen anything good? Preferably not acrylic....

Are we supposed to get superhuman heating powers when pregnant? Are we seals?

Treat yourself to a bit of cashmere?

fleacircus · 19/09/2007 11:56

God yes me too, especially warmer stuff that's smart enough to wear to work, it's all just flipping blouses.

susiemj · 19/09/2007 22:22

It's the one time M&S have really let me down. How dreary can the colours of their maternity clothes BE?

The cashmere looks gorgeous but we're in the middle of buying a house so budgets are tight. BTW I like that webpage and haven't seen it before.

There's a long fleece at jojomamnbebe which looks ok but not waterproof and a couple of jumpers at La Redoute that I've found. Anything else?

Watching this with interest as I can't find anything warm either.

Perhaps we are supposed to just stay inside by cosy log fires for 9 months.

PippiLangstrump · 20/09/2007 10:15

same here. will wait for tips.

Seona1973 · 20/09/2007 10:20

jojomamanbebe have a few jackets, cardies, etc

susiemj · 20/09/2007 12:49

I feel I have scoured everywhere. Shall we bump occasionally to remind ourselves to have another try / in case anyone else has seen something?

I was in this position last year and ended up going to H&M and getting some lovely longish jumpers just a size or two bigger than my usual size. I then got myself a lovely wrap around cardigan in my pre-preg size and it worked wonderfully.
For waterproof things I just pinched one of dh's jackets and it worked fine.

PippiLangstrump · 20/09/2007 18:01

I am sorry but this time I am not going to pinch DH's stuff, except t-shirts for going to bed. That's what I did last time as I thought it was pointless to buy things just for a few months. Well I looked a mess and felt like that too.
This time I am going to make some kind of effort. especially being winter.

MuffinMclay · 20/09/2007 19:19

For me, the problem with wearing dh's stuff is that the arms are far too long to be credible.

thelady · 20/09/2007 20:35

Hmph. DH and I wear the same size when I'm not pregnant - so how I'm supposed to borrow his stuff now...?

Still hunting for basic stuff here too!

BellaBear · 20/09/2007 20:46

I bought a thick cotton knitted zipped cardigan which zips from the bottom and the top (so it can be undone a bit when I get too big)--it is designed as maternity wear, so it has a bit of bump shape at the front. Unfortunately for you lot I bought it in Australia! I can't seem to find the actual top but it was from this shop:www.mother2b.com.au/collection_autumn.php

But maybe a top and bottom zip up cardi not specifically designed for maternity would be as good, if anywhere sells one?

WestCountryLass · 20/09/2007 20:56

I got jumpers and cardigans from H & M last year, what about Mothercare?

Pollyanna · 20/09/2007 21:01

There is lots of knitwear in Gap at the moment. this is non-maternity but is quite baggy/aline.

susiemj · 21/09/2007 11:20

Mothercare - no coat one thin v-neck, tie-front cardigan. Sorry Mothercare - that's just not going to cut it in Aberystwyth in January! Or even now (she says, hearing the pounding rain on the window).

Some things that are a bit more promising here:
www.bumpsmaternity.com/items.php?level1Key=1&level2Key=1&level3Key=4&pageKey=3

website is www.bumpsmaternity.com in case the link doesn't work..

They have some nice knitwear too. They're maybe a bit pricey but there are at leat two REAL COATS!!!
