Which Kindle?

Hi all, my old kindle now no longer charges and I need a new one.

I am confused by the options and the price differences between the kindle and the kindle paper white.

I wondered if the lighting on the paper white was the kind that wakes you up (like a phone light) as I use reading my book as a way of relaxing and getting to sleep.

Which one would you recommend and why - thanks very much!

I have had both, and the paperwhite was definitely better for me. I believe that the light isn’t designed to glare, and although I think it might emit a little bit of the blue light that can be stimulating, I don’t think that it’s as strong as a phone or tablet. It certainly hasn’t affected my sleep anyway, and I can be quite sensitive to screens.

The touch screen of the paperwhite vs the old style is much easier and quicker to use, especially if you want to type when searching for new books.

It’s also very convenient that you don’t need a lamp on at night - I like reading in the dark to help me wind down even more. If you share a room with someone else, they might appreciate it too when they’re trying to sleep. We bought one for my MIL for that reason and it’s her favourite ever present.

Before you buy your next kindle, do get in touch with amazon customer services to see what they can do. My brother stepped on his ancient kindle and broke it, and they still gave him money off a new one!

I have a paperwhite after having a regular kindle. It is so much better. I don't find the light bothers me at night because you can turn it right down. You can also make it very bright for when you're outside in sunlight.

I love my backlit paperwhite, it's my third kindle and favourite and you'd only know it's lit in the dark is just looks like the other ones normally. The light isn't glary it's totally different to how a phone is lit.

How much storage would you recommend? 8/16/32?

You can turn the light off completely on the paperwhite if you want and then it looks like the old kindles. I love it for reading under the covers in bed or when I'm camping in my sleeping bag.

I've no idea what storage I've got. Id probably go for the middle option! My top tip is to pay an extra tenner to not have any adverts on it.

The case decision is crucial I have a beautiful Japanese style flower design and it turns the kindle on and off automatically when I open and close. I just had a look on Amazon but they are only for 2018 or older paperwhite.

Thanks - I will pay the extra £10 to not have adverts. I remember my DDs had those on their Fires and it was really annoying!!
