Not a great player or chess myself, but my dd really wanted to learn. Picked it up very fast in the hoildays and now is going to start at the school chess club.
She what's to play every night so was thinking of getting a chess computer so she can play by herself.
Looking for one with a teaching mode and if it's a tavel all the better.
Does anyones dd or ds have a chess computer they can recomemed.

we have got '42 all time classics' on the nintendo ds. It's got chess, checkers, mah jong, dots and boxes, darts, loads and loads of stuff etc. It's great fun - even I play it every now and then!

May not be what you are looking for on the chess front.
