XC 90 Owners - which spec/kit do i go for, or avoid?

charlieandlola · 14/09/2007 13:41

please do not turn this into a " all 4x4's are evil debate" Thank you

I am about to get an XC90 but would like some tips from owners about which spec to go for - plus which extra kit is worth it. The dealership is telling me to go with an SE with no additional kit? Will I be missing something worthwhile if I do? Blacked out windows or not?
Am getting the diesel 185 bhp model.
TIA

You need hmc - she has one..

Gobbledigook · 14/09/2007 19:03

ANd I won't flame you - I think they are nice cars. We thought about one but it didn't have big enough boot space with the 7 seats in and got GV instead.

XC90 is lovely though.

charlieandlola · 14/09/2007 19:05

Thanks GDG.

will have to check exact details of model etc with dh

but think we went for SE - same engine as you

tinted windows - great if you hate the cat shades (i do)

step - handy for kids and gimmer relatives

traffic info / sat nav thingy - great, never use atlas now

we also got rear seat dvds worth every penny

Gobbledigook · 14/09/2007 19:18

Oh yes, we don't have XC90 but we do have built in DVD player and it's worth it's weight in gold for long car journeys.

charlieandlola · 14/09/2007 19:58

what was your spec called, tutter? Was it the exec? Does it have a built in phone ( which seems a complete faff, involving duplicate SIM cards)? Await news from your dh!

charlieandlola · 14/09/2007 20:01

DH violently opposed to built in dvds so I have no chance. He endured days of I spy driving around france, crammed into the back of his fathers 1972 car, and is DETERMINED that our 2 should be equally bored. He has conceded on 3rd row A/c and i pod plug ins, though

Dh, Volvo mechanic says:

'The SE with no additional kit has pretty much everything you need except for rear entertainment and front parking sensors. It has all the usual stuff like air-con, electric front seats, full leather, blah, blah, blah.....'

'Do you need something that big, as the XC70 is a good motor. Last years shape has all the gear but is about £7k cheaper with the same bhp'

Any help?

He is happy to answer any further questions!

Gobbledigook · 14/09/2007 20:11

Yes, when you've heard the script to 'Cars' more than about 100 times it does wear you down!!!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 14/09/2007 20:14

Ah, I see you have already ordered. Forget the XC70 then...
lol

Tutter · 14/09/2007 20:30

ours is the SE

decided that built-in fridge not really a necessity

RTKangaMummy · 14/09/2007 20:30

We have the RTI + TV {SAT NAV WITH INTEGRATED TELIEVISION}

We have the integrated telephone system with the additional handset if you want private conversations

I would deffo NOT get a car without without either now

We love them all

The Television is soooooooooooo brilliant and the reception is excellent

it comes through as sound when driving fast and then in traffic jams or when driving really slowly _ like crawling along M25 you get picture too

Deffo you must getr it all

We have also got the fridge with the cooker/heater as well so like last night DH went to get the chinese takeaway it keeps the food hot for ages even after you get home

RTKangaMummy · 14/09/2007 20:32

Fro the telephone we have a separate SIM card that stays perminantly in the slot

BUT it is very easy and quick to swap if you want

It is a little drawer that comes out

Also deffo get black windows

RTKangaMummy · 14/09/2007 20:33

sorry just saw your post about the boredom your DH wants

charlieandlola · 14/09/2007 20:39

no,I haven't ordered yet, thats why I posted, to make sure I got the MN approved spec.
Lady of the flowers - we need 7 seats as am going to be doing am and pm school runs with 2 other mums and need to be able to seat 5 x 5 yo's kids, plus a driver. Lucky me, eh!!
Thanks Tutter's dh. RTKM, would Looove a TV, but dh is completely dead set on boredom for them all and was not even moved a jot by the offer that HE could sit in the back and watch sport whilst I drove.... , so that'll be a No to seat back entertainment.

Our TV comes up from the dashboard

It is a SAT NAV as well with remote control

And the Stereo system has remote control

Tell him the selling price will be increased

Like I said once you have had one with RTI + TV you don't ever want a lesser model

So will be easier to sell

RTKangaMummy · 14/09/2007 20:46

Tell him the other parents will think his car is the "bees knees" with a TV etc.

and will all be

He doesn't have to have the TV on when he is in the car

just you !!!!!!!!!!!!

Get the multichanger CD player too

dazedandconfunded · 15/09/2007 12:27

at the step - never even noticed that on the list. If I'm in the back row I just give up and fall out.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 15/09/2007 22:31

the side steps are more for looks than anything else so dh recommends only letting the little'uns use them as 'steps', not adults!

miobombino · 16/09/2007 18:38

I bought an XC90 3 years ago + have been very happy. Might even get another next year. If I were to do that, I'd get:

  • Satnav; I'm quite happy with my A to Z - we're in London - but I think it would up your eventual resale value.
  • I wouldn't get built in DVD's personally; my 4 manage without in any event, but tbh a far cheaper strap on set with 2 screens from halfords would be a massive saving and have the portability advantage. Not sure an integral one would even add value. I recently testdrove a BMW X5 and the dealer there recommended NOT to get the integral DVD. -would get front parking sensors - don't think they were on offer 3 years ago, just rear ones as standaerd.
  • would once again get leather seats (think these were standard though)
  • 3rd row air con - def get this.
charlieandlola · 06/11/2007 21:17

It has arrived and its fab!
Got the SE, but with
Sat Nav RTI - no TV - remote control
Blacked out windows
Multichanger CD
Parking sensors
Bluetooth kit
Ipod Connectors

No DVDs
No intergrated fridge
No steps
No intergrated phone

Thanks everyone for your help!

enjoy

we had ours valeted on saturday after ds1 projectile vommed in it

(did you go for leather protection? )

Tutter · 06/11/2007 21:19

what colour, btw? [girl]

charlieandlola · 06/11/2007 21:23

C&L panics at the thought of a missed option?

Valeted cars are sooo nice - will have to get this one done every week, once it has stopped smelling of that lovely new car/garage smell.

Colour - boringly like every other car in the world, silver, with black leather inside. Was panicked at the thought of "arena" interior !
